PostPosted: 15:33 - 10 Jun 2018    Post subject: Youth-speak Reply with quote

Both my lads are at Park Life in Manchester this weekend. I like to send a single text on occasions such as this to find out if they are still alive. The reply I got was that they are both 'spangled'.

Could one of the younger members of the Forum advise me of the youth-speak definition of 'spangled' please? My suspicion is that it describes a sense of chemical inebriation and euphoria....

I don't use the term myself.
Although I quite like Spangladesh.

The only time I've need Spangled used in a sentence is for this:

So?

I think I know this one. They have encountered a stall selling traditional sweets and are now enjoying a sugary, possibly slightly fizzy high. What a jolly, wholesome time they must be having.

No ideas, but I think it's safe to assume they are enjoying themselves.

The continued ability to operate a mobile phone has to be a good sign

Possibly chemical induced (or the feeling resulting from overindulgance in chemicals/alcohol the previous night).

Although I was feeling somewhat "spangled" yesterday evening due to standing outside in the sun for too long with no hat on.

The middle one doesn't come back up very well. Possibly check dust and seals *and* fluid seals, but be careful not to actuate piston too far or you'll lose pressure and have to do a full bleed.

That's the sort of thing I'd pick up as a first ever restoration. Not an utter shed of a bike, simple enough to learn on, very sellable, and a chance of making a profit if done smart.

Poorly listed too which generally keeps prices down a little bit.

True. But most of this terminology has since been absorbed into the world of simply having too many drinks.

Going out raving used to mean public telephones in pub car parks, meeting down a country lane and off for 24-48 hours of gurning and throwing shapes in a field somewhere around the M25.

Now raving means going to a rammed pub in town, getting drunk on shots for 5 hours, having a fight and throwing up.

"Peaking" and "on a mission" are now often used when having put together a successful Powerpoint presentation, and looking for more paper for the photocopier.

Bloody hell Ste, I just made that one up!

Note to self - when inventing words, must look them up on internet before I type them, as chances are somebody else will have come up with letters in the same order but a completely different meaning....
