It turns out that the coolant reservoir on my er6f has cracked and I'm ordering a new one tomorrow and replacing it myself.

Seeing as I'm a mechanical noob, is it a simple as taking off the old one, fitting the new one, reconnecting the hoses and filling it up with coolant between the min-max levels or is there anything else I'd need to do? Will I need to bleed/flush it through the radiator for example?

All advice appreciated as I know nothing. Embarassed

Yes, as simple as that.

Once you replace the reservoir, you're going to have to bleed the system. That's pretty simple as well, just let the engine run with the filler cap off for a while. Thumbs Up

Good call.

I'll check out some you tube vids.

I was just going to fill it from the cap on top of the bottle. Laughing

EDIT: Your other post's vanished. Shocked

Yes, I was not sure if it was ER6, so I removed the post.

Either way, you always bleed cooling systems (and brakes as well, notice where the bleed nipples are on the calipers) at the highest point. On some motorcycles the highest point is the reservoir, on other bikes it's not and there tends to be an extra cap either on the radiator or elsewhere.

EDIT: After you bleed the cooling system, check the coolant level again. It will drop once there's no air in the system. Wink

Points, plural. Some bikes have bleed points within the system. For once, it really is a case of RTFM.
