So, decided I'm going to look for a new mattress.

Cue Facebook bombarding me with the ads about all the Which recommended. Rolling Eyes Eve, Otty, Simba, etcetc. The list goes on. All offer 100 day no quibble returns, that inevitably quibble. I can't be arsed getting each mattress delivered in turn to try it for a few days and decide it ain't for me.

We have a decent memory foam mattress, but it's just so hot in summer. The only real places I can see these in the flesh is John Lewis or Next Home.

Can anyone who has experience with any of the above let me know if it was decent, etc.

Cheap as chips mattress... Expensive mattress topper (far cheaper than expensive mattress)

Works perfectly.

£800 pocket sprung firm mattress with free bed attached from Dreams did the trick for me but I am big and heavy.

Don't buy a mattress without trying it. You spend less time in your car and you wouldn't buy one of those without at least sitting in the drivers seat.

I think memory foam is the work of the devil and can fuck right off, instant boil in the bag bed. My folks have one in their spare room and I sometimes just have to sleep on the floor.

Try a local bed centre. Our local one has loads of different mattresses. you can go in and have a lie down on. If you get hot and sweaty like me, look for natural fibres (cotton, wool etc). Tell the guy what you have now and what you do and don't like about it. They know their trade.

I like Sealey mattresses.

Best one I ever had was a high density pocket spring mattreas with a memory foam topper about an inch thick. It was awesome.

I wish I could switch full time to a hammock though but the Mrs won't have it.

it's all so subjective, I've had a memory foam mattress and pillows for two years now and don't find them hot.

Memory foam is definitely not the same. My current one is like sleeping on hot sand. I hate it. My last one was cool as anything and moulded tonyour shape well.

I have the Simba king size and although I was initially sceptical (I'm not a fan of anything that's over advertised) I really do sing its praises.
I have a bad back normally and suffer from night sweats, haven't experienced either since buying the Simba.

Not cheap, but bloody good.

Anything orthopaedic will be firmer that non orthopaedic.

A firm mattress is much better I think.

Not rock sold but you should be able to roll about on it without getting bogged down.

A good quality pillow is a valuable asset to a good sleep too.

I buy Goose Down. But again they are a mine field of densities to choose from.
You could buy a firm one and a softer one maybe the mrs will prefer and different one than you.

I have a hybrid mattress from Dreams. It's brilliant, and I sleep very well. I had the advantage that I'd already tried out a similar one at the GF's old house, so it was a no brainer when I tried a load in the shop and found that the one I chose was identical to hers.

Holy thread revival.

Ordered the Rem Fit offering, the 'cool gel' has sold it to me, and the 25% off. Laughing

Update in two months when I decide it's shite and not for me. Very Happy

It would be prudent to sleep on it then decide.

Embarassed

p.s. I thought that this thread had been put to sleep? Thinking Embarassed Embarassed

p.p.s. Feather Pillows..... don't fucking forget. Mad

And buy good cotton bed linen. Egyptian Cotton Min. 400 thread count. (Not forum threads. Rolling Eyes )

What you sleep 'in' is as important as what you sleep on.

Edit: You WILL thank me later.

I liked the Sealey mattress adverts with Nicholas Lyndhurst as a bed salesman (Rodney to you):

Foreign lady customer: 'I'd like a Sealey bed'

Lyndhurst:'I'm sorry madam we only sell sensible beds here..'

.. as you were.

Bit late to the party, but I went with one of those online Emma ones after a friend recommended it.

Haven't slept this well and been as comfy in ages.

Well, had a couple of nights on it now, as it was delivered just before I went up to Scotchland for the new year. I got the 500 which is the middle one in the range, 2000 springs plus the foam plus gel. Came with two sprung pillows.

It's a bit firm. Not ultra firm, but there's a good amount of support. Same with the pillows. Bonus is that I'm not cooking at night like with the old mattress. It is more comfortable too.

They have promos on ATM, you get your pick of the range of pillows this time though, not just the basic ones like I got, but if you're after a mattress, I'd consider one. Can always return it and it gets donated to the BHF if you don't like it.

Couple months on, and still liking the mattress, still firm, not sunk into it yet, but I suppose the tester will be how warm it is in summer.
