Righto, so I've wound up with a Job at Edinburgh festival this summer so will be in Edinburgh late July and all of August.

I'm looking at transport options and really nothing at all is good. What's Edinburgh like for bikes, particularly the parking of...?

Edinburgh is thief ridden. It's a fairly irritating place to ride, congested, lots of 20 zones with cameras, a few cobblestone roads too.

The rest of Scotland is ok.

There's plenty of parking spaces, but some significant risk of the bike not being there when you return.

Also, you're riding in Edinburgh which is indeed not something that I'd wish on anyone. You can use some/most bus lanes, but I'm not sure you'd want do.

I recently had to travel over there. Despite there being a bike bay right next to my destination, I just took the train.

I used to commute into Edinburgh city center on the bike. I would NOT do that in the car, but on 2 wheels it's fine.

As mentioned, theft is a problem in the city. I was lucky enough that I could see my bike from the office, and just stuck a disc lock on it to deter someone casually wheeling it away.

If I have to go there now, I park the car at a train station outside the city and get the train in. Much less hassle.

Went there last year and stayed at a static caravan site.
4 of our group had their bikes nicked.

We were aware as when I arrived the first thing I was told by the cleaner was 'Lock yer bikes...yer wee bawbag'd sassenach shitebag yer' or words to that effect.

Road surfaces were rough.

Lovely place. Confused
