Tetraethyl lead is the obvious, intended association here, so "if TEL works why wouldn't something else?" However, TEL isn't a catalyst because it is consumed in a reaction which turns long chain polymers into branched chains which are more resistant to premature detonation. Chemical analysis shows this change in the fuel. No lab has produced data to show a chemical change in the fuel caused by Broquet. If it's not a fuel catalyst or a reactant the only mechanism left is one which might prevent micro-welds between valve and valve seat, but that would require the Broquet material to erode and deplete, which the manufacturer says doesn't happen. As someone else suggested, the Russian Hurricanes story is apocryphal. I think the "Broquet catalyst" is a scam.

There's an advert for the tank.chip in MCN this week (page 11). Surely if they accepted the advert it must work. It says it improves performance in all kinds of bike: 'racer', 'scooter' or 'classic', '2-stroke' or '4-stroke'. This is not snake oil, it's snake NITRO!
