hi all

question has already been done to death but with slip-on cans do you need to get engine remapped or do anything else to it? gut says no as everyone i ask in person says not necessary but just wondered what the thoughts were. i know you can lose back pressure and run lean etc etc

i swapped out my f4i stock can for a GPR furore can, sounds much better and cars actually hear me coming and physically make an effort to move over (in london loud pipes save lives), took the front baffle out but left the rear one in as was loud enough and didnt want it to be stupidly loud

I know that my bike has a flat spot when I have the race can fitted, and that it seems to run rich, as the exhaust will pop quite a bit when the throttle is closed off after giving it some.

Also fuel economy seemed to go down, when compared to the stock exhaust.

One thing to note is my bike has carbs, and it also has a cat in the OEM exhaust.

It's ok with the race can on, but I mainly switched back to OEM due to the noise being annoying.

If I was keeping the race can fitted, I probably 'should' adjust the fueling.

My bike has the stock downpipes.

I have Yamaha/Akras race exhaust system for the MT09. No cat at all, and according to Yamaha, no need to remap either.
I specifically asked the question when I bought it, would have happily gone and had it mapped to suit but was told 'no need'.

I have a de-cat system on my MT-10. Everyone said not to bother remapping as it would be fine but it does run rich and hopefully I can get some better fuel economy out of it too, so I may well get it sorted out soon.

do you guys run with baffles in or out? was told if running with baffles out this affects the performance of the bike more than baffles in

I'm running baffle out and its noticeably worse now in the hot weather, like... really obvious. It hunts and drops idle a little, feels like it misfires when pulling away.

Baffle in is better, not a cure but its a bit better.

I'm of the opinion that any changes to the air in / exhaust out will affect how much fuel the bike needs (and the timing?)

Most bikes will run nearly fine with a non stock can, but to get the most out your set up, you'll need a remap / jetting changes.

Give it a go for a few 100 miles and see how you get on. (FI) A fuel controller isn't cheap, but they do come up on ebay and you might be able to download a map too.

I like mine running a bit rich as I really enjoy the pops

Baffle out here, It's loud either way but there are more loud bangs and fire with the baffle left in.
