If we ignore the price, this seems to be a really good setup - it's light enough that a good proportion of people will be able to easily get it into back yards, up a few steps etc, but has enough power when derestricted to get most places in a city without holding up traffic.

With light weight wheels, a full adult size and an acceptable amount of power and speed, it should be quite fun on trails too.

Front brake is apparently a bit weedy, but I suspect you could swap in a better caliper to fix that, if not just better pads.

Buy me one, if it's a mere bagatelle.

Not sure about this, but I can see its progress happening in the ideal sector (commuter/moped alternative) that EV bikes will be best suited to.

I like the design of the frame and linkage rear monoshock system, and the fact that this bike will have some good off road ability.

The 45mile range if worst case fully thrashed on the road scenario is very acceptable too.

But my issue is that very good EV mountain bikes that are road legal and can be used as a normal mtb with electric assistance are what £2-2.5k. So a real mtb that you can ride like any other bike, but has serious performance for off road real hero stuff is still alot cheaper and for most will be a better option?

But for me if I wanted a city commuter pure EV then I'd want it to be a scooter with the advantages of practicality and storage that they have. A 45mph 45mile range electric moped for say £3k new? Now that would be worth having for many 50cc would be buyers and an extra £1000-1500 over the cost of a premium Japanese twist and go would be probably acceptable and fair value for some.

Of course having the chance to ride it in a city without having it quickly and forcibly taken from you with a dash of acid to face and a fatal stab wound to go with it, would be even better!

Well yes, the price rather spoils it, which is why I had to ignore it to offer complements to it.
Whether a similar product could be profitably sold for a good bit less is the question.

I think your idea of 'serious performance' may not match reality.
The ones you're talking about have 250w - so about 1/3rd hp. A good bit less than someone who cycles a bit will bit out in short bursts. So it's merely aiding pedalling a little. They also have to be peddled for the power to work and are limited to 15.5mph.
However, you can make a DIY version from around £700 say, depending on the components selected and type of used bike to base it on.

Anyway - with 12x the power and a throttle, there's going to be a significant difference to performance.

Again - this definitely isn't for me in any way - but if the price comes down a bit, can see it making a lot of sense - at least, yes, if someone finds a solution to bikelaaf.

Weighs 50kg, gonna need some decent locks to stop anyone walking off with it. Literally.

my father-in-laws I am not sure it really is legal electric bicycle is a hoot, it looks just like a little moped, and has a hair raising 20mph without me pedallng, need to pedal to start it off, but can then stop

borrowed a mates electric bicycle yesterday, every time i stopped pedaling the motor stopped assisting, disliked

Normally the moped ones with pedals are limited to 250w/15.5mph, but may be 'derestricted' without too much difficulty possibly.

The rules about power are a bit fuzzy and don't necessarily relate to peak power, but what a motor can sustain.

Along thoseish lines...
This comes with a v5 on a Q plate and can be folded up and carried away (so best to do so yourself!):

I'm selling for significantly less than the price of one of the bikes linked above Wink.

1000w; It's not mega fast, but it's low enough geared that most people have a good bit of a grin first time they accelerate on it. (That or they're scared it's about to fold in half while riding! Smile)
