Might be interested in the so called "anti rust paint", but not to use on a bike. In my experience, those cheap rattle cans only provide a temporary delay to rot.
The only way to prevent rust is to make stuff from a non-oxidisable metal, (not affordable for me), or completely enclose it in something.
Many layers of paint seem to be the current choice, but I wonder if, in the future, it will be possible to create a self healing alloy that works in the way that galvanised steel works?
ie, with galv, if you break the surface of the plating slightly, a protective layer of zinc migrates to protect the bare steel.
Having thought about this, this would be a non-substainable reaction, so couldn't work.
Might give the paint a try on some garden furniture tho, cheers for the heads up . |
