Hi,

I've got a 63-plate YBR125 Custom that won't start. It's been sitting outside under a cover for a few months.

I can't bump start it, and I can't start it with the kickstart. I've also connected the battery up to my car and that doesn't help either.

I don't think the battery is the issue. It turns over, but it just won't splutter into life.

The engine warning light gives 1 long and 9 short flashes, i.e. an error code of "19" - meaning "no signal from ignition to ECU".

Google tells me that it might be something like a loose connection in the ignition barrel or an issue with the connection between the switch and the ECU.

I've sprayed some WD-40 down into the barrel and tried wiggling and depressing the key as I hold the starter, but the damn thing still won't start.

Any suggestions of any quick things to check before I start tearing the bike apart checking the wires from the barrel to the ECU?

Strange that's it turning over if it's related to the ignition.
Can you pull the plug and see if it's sparking? If it is, then I would guess a fuel issue.
Might just be a vacuum in the tank, open and shut the filler cap and try again.
Nothing silly like fuel tap (or lack of fuel) or kill switch is it?

It doesn't spark, but from what I understand, it won't spark if it thinks the connection isn't good from the ignition to the ECU.

It has fuel in it, and there's no fuel tap or kill switch on this bike Thinking

If you don't spot anything else, the first wire to check goes from the ignition to the ECU. There is a (from memory) white wire with a black stripe (Possibly the other way around, check the wiring diagram). This grounds the ECU. That was a touch loose with my YBR and caused all sorts of shenanigans. Easy enough check, wiggle it into different positions, and try it.

Black with white is ECU to ignition.

Orange is ECU to coil / spark plugs. Probably worth wiggling both.
