New chain & sprockets on my CG125. All divine except for a slight thrum at around 20mph when decelerating.

Will be double checking chain tightness and condition later, but recall the new (JT) rear sprocket was tight fitting up against the hub rather than 'floating' to any degree, requiring some modest taps to get it fully seated. Is that correct or should it be relatively free to move to allow some self alignment?

There should be a tiny bit of rotational free play from the cush drive rubbers. Is there?

At the point of fitting it the interference would've limited any rotational play however it is difficult to know by how much. That said, as/when the paint on that part of the sprocket erodes I wouldn't be surprised if it was sufficiently free again.

In spite of the above, on this morning's commute the thrum is now completely gone, leaving me with a 100% divine experience. I'll nonetheless check the freedom of movement the sprocket has over the weekend.

Sounds good.

I recently replaced my sprockets and chain on a CG125 I had just bought. The seller said they were recently replaced, but I had a horrible grinding thrum / graunching feel through the pegs when I closed off the throttle a bit at about 45 / 50 mph on a flat road so the chain was sort of pulling a bit and at times not pulling the bike. The new chain and sprockets I got were quality items and they turned out to be the same sort as were on and the old ones were not worn, but I replaced them anyway. The nasty sensations went away. I'm thinking now that the chain was over tight, but the previous owner had also changed the ratio slightly by using a one tooth larger front sprocket so now I have the correct gear ratio by using the 14 tooth front sprocket rather than the 15 that had been fitted.

Anyhow, the bike runs far sweeter now.

Mine also had excessive engine vibration which state of affairs was cured by nipping up all the engine mounting bolts - just a touch.

It is like a different bike now and I hope yours is too. So - I now wish you no headwinds or hills, then it will feel like a 250! - Almost. Smile

I tried Google translate but it couldn't compute. It's funny really, because you can put in all kinds of shit - even Chinese or Arabicand it comes up with a comprehensible and meaningful response. This above however, it could make no sense of.
