Take a look on Ebay theres always tons of gear there at good prices too,or if you're unsure of what will fit well go down to your local bike dealer and try a few things on and see what you like, most decent dealers carry heaps of clothing in stock. You should buy the most expensive gear you can possibly afford, yes it can get very expensive but you will be repaid for it if you come off and you have decent kit to protect you.

Good quality gear will also last longer, and as with everything else in life you only get what you pay for.

That is equivalent to UK size small.

Heres a chart which should help you compare uk/euro sizes.
www.outdoorgear.co.uk/pix/info/Size_Chart2.htm

The only problem with buying on Ebay is if it doesn't fit you may not be able to return it to the seller and if you can return it you would have to pay postage which depending on the weight of the item could be expensive.

Like I said before take a trip to you're local bike dealer and try a few things on,you don't have to buy anything but it'll give you an idea of what sizes you will need.

Buying a helmet on Ebay is fine but make sure its brand new...read the item description very carefully Thumbs Up

It depends on the weather,I've got 3 different jackets ranging from a very light mesh jacket from Frank Thomas to a full length thickly padded Buffalo jacket,I also use a smaller sport type Buffalo jacket which is fairly good for all weather but if it gets too hot I get bad headaches so thats why I got the light mesh one.

I don't usually wear biking trousers as I find them very uncomfortable but thats just me,I prefer to wear a good quality pair of jeans,NOT the cheap crappy Primark type!

I also don't bother with biker boots but prefer to wear a good sturdy pair of steel toe capped lace up work boots.

As for helmets like I said before buy the best you can afford,I would love to have a top of the range Arai but my bank account won't let me so I've got a Shark S500 which I find very comfortable to wear and of course comfort is very important,if you're uncomfortable you may not be concentrating 100% on riding a bike properly!

If you like Shoei, then you may like an Xpeed, there a "cheaper" version of them actually made by Shoei themselves.

They offer the same fit etc, just without the name.

Also I can highly recommend J&S leathers and no doubt many people will recommend Hein Gericke too, whom I haven't used yet.

As for boots brands I recommend are Frank Thomas Aquaboot if you want cheapies, they offer good protection (I crashed in a pair and I didn't have any injuries to my ankles/feet etc) or Sidi if you have a little more to spend.

Do steer clear of RST Boots though as I have found there useless, they leak and generally just crap.

Motocross helmets are okay, apart from the fact you then look like a chav and you need goggles as well. Razz

I'd get some proper bike gloves rather than some random leather gloves from somewhere, they might be leather but if they're not designed to withstand tarmac at speed then they'll do bugger all.

Ski jacket, better than nothing but same as the gloves really, ski jackets are designed to need to withstand the abrasion of tarmac at 70mph, thus they won't do. Get a proper bike jacket really.

Steel toe caps, don't use them! If you crash and the end of your foot hits the ground they can do a nice job of cutting all your toes off very neatly, so best again to get some proper bike boots which are designed to withstand bike crashes.

Best kit really is the best you can afford which fit properly, decide on your budget and then go along to your local bike shop(s) and try lots of different things on and then decide what has the best fit. If the armour doesn't fit well it can cause injury as if it can twist around and dig in then it could well do in a crash, so the fact it has armour doesn't mean much if it doesn't fit.

Nothing wrong with wearing leathers (one piece or jeans and jacket, or just jacket and textile trousers) and you might consider it looks stupid, but I would expect you'd look more stupid with large amounts of skin and flesh missing?

You're best off not ordering it off the web without trying it on first, as just because the waist and leg measurements say it will fit, all different brands have their own different cut and the best kit is kit which fits well, so try it on in the shops. Thumbs Up

I really really wouldn't even consider buying a second hand helmet off eBay. Firstly you don't know if it fits you or not, yes the head circumference might be right, but the best helmet for you is the one which fits best. Also you don't know if the helmet has been dropped and damaged which would mean in the event of a crash you wouldn't be protected as well. So buy new and buy something which you've actually tried on (try them on in the shops, and mail order if it's cheaper but never buy without trying it on an knowing its a good fit). Some Shoei lids might well be above your budget, but the best helmet for you is the one which fits well and as long as it has the BSI certification sticker (which all sold in bike shops will) then it's okay. Dark visors you buy online from places like www.thevisorshop.com and you don't worry about that until you've got your helmet and then you go about finding a dark visor for it and a bag to carry your clear one in so that if you're stuck out on the roads and it goes dark you can swap them over.

Keep your ear to the ground. I got a full armoured jacket and armoured trousers for 25 quid the lot from a bloke who gave up biking, and decent boots for £22 on eBay and my helmet was half price because it was last years stock same with my gloves. There's always bargains its just a case of finding them. I'd say my full kit didn't even cost me 200 quid.

Depends what you mean by "it". Don't buy stuff unless you've had the chance to try the same thing on in a shop, yes the waist and inside leg measurements might be the same as you are but that doesn't mean it will have a good fit.

Steve, find kit which fits you and then worry about what colour you're going to get it in. A jacket where you'd prefer the arms to be slightly darker but fits better than that one they had which you really liked the colour scheme will do a better job of saving your skin. So its up to you, you need to decide what you value more, the colours of your kit, or your skin and bones. Its you who is going to be seen in public in the clothes and its your skin and bones so you need to decide which is most important to you.
