The thing I forgot to do when I was sorting out the er6f was to give it an oil changed... So going to do that now, but what oil should I use?

10w40 obviously... But on googling it's not clear if I should be going with a specific brand/series of oil...

So any suggestions?

I generally use Comma Eurolite. It's cheap and a decent semi synthetic. Thumbs Up

I used this last time I did an oil change. Under £20......

https://www.amazon.co.uk/10w40-Motorcycle-Oil-Semi-Synthetic-Litres/dp/B0185SKNB4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1532081419&sr=8-2&keywords=oil+10w40+motorcycle

Others just use cheap car oil but at that price it's a no brainer to me.

I use Castrol Power 1 - it's over-priced, but does have a cool anti-glug thang that makes filling from the container really easy (rather than a measuring jug). The container also has a visible strip down the side so you can see how much is left inside.

I used to use the cheapest 10w40 semi I could find - but since getting a better bike, and following advice on its dedicated forum, I don't scrimp.

thats jut ist, im wary of just going for the cheapest thing i can find. My brother is all about getting the most expensive thing he could find, i have my limits:p

But honestly i thought some brands and series of oil were better suited to each bike...

Aye, I've bought their 15w/50 fully synthetic for the Enfield :-

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/112064663707

Although it currently has Halfords 10w/40 semi synthetic in it, as that's what I had a can of from a sale. Get the "right stuff" or go cheap and change regularly. If it's black, or watery, change it.

I think I've got a 4Ltr can of Silkolene Pro4 that's been sat on a shelf for 10years. Pay me the postage and you can pour that in it if you like?

Apparently if you believe the Bullshit it goes off after 5years, the additives and esters dissappear and it turns to shit though.

Would oil sitting on the shelf for 10 years still be viable?

I used to use castrol GTX in my GPZ500. The engine from that is still going strong in a different bike at 80k+ miles. Hard to find 10-40 GTX now though and it's got pricey.

I put halfords own brand car oil in my VFR and the wifes CB500.

Silkolene semi synthetic oil 10w40

Replace it regularly and tend not to worry about it buying the "best" oil

Euro car parts often has triple qx? Or whatever the brand is.. Fully synthetic for 12 quid a bottle. I got 3 bottles about a year ago and the cbr6 is quite happy with it. She is upto 99.5k miles and most of that has been above 8k rpm

This reminds me I was going to do a change but need to order a new filter. I did not note down the distance when I did it last. What have you done thread, 12th November, 10k miles ago... It is due.
