Hi all,

Could I get a definitive answer to this?
Does a motorbike need a working numberplate light to pass the MOT?

My FZ6 had an R&G tail tidy with LED plate light built in. The bulbs have failed so I got rid. However I'm now running without (central reflector, indicators & tail light) & all the rest working perfectly.

Would this pass the MOT? Mine's due in a month or so...no rush but nice to get sorted early if it's needed.

Taaa Thumbs Up

Yes.

Its well easy to fix though... just stick a small LED under the brake light, or ghetto, cut a bit out of the bottom of the light so white light faced down rather than back and boom.

The MOT on exhausts...

Exhaust noise levels in excess of those permitted - Major

The exhaust system and silencer should be in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the motorcycle isn't clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar motorcycle with a standard silencer in average condition.

No advisory now, proper loud ting on mine too.

The quoted part there has always been there for at least the past 8 years, where it shouldn't be above the expected volume of a standard exhaust.

The lack of advisory has changed, although I guess most garages that would have had it as an advisory would just ignore it now.

can you just change to the stock silencer for the MOT?

previous bike got through at least 3 MOT's without the number plate light working. never got an advisory for it either.

As I understand the regs, peds can get away without it, but bikes need it.

Both bikes went through the new MOT in the last couple of weeks. Both have noticeably loud exhausts. As per usual, it's down to your tester.

Both passed, one had an advisory on the chain, the other none at all.
