just been searching around and found that Gem Recovery are doing a full service (home assistance, etc, etc) for £35 a year, the AA equivalent is over £100 I think. I've never heard of them before, anyone know if they're any good?
For anyone thinking of joing them you have to go through www.moneysupermarket.com to get the discount, it's normally £49 |

Just make sure you read the small print with any recovery service - don't want to get lumped with a 'cost per mile outside a certain radius' or any of that nonsense. |

I'm with BikeAssist (0800 9173365) and it costs £35 for the basic "we'll come and recover you and your bike to your home or to a garage" or £45 if you want it with home start. Only ever used them once, and that was when someone elses bike had broken down (it was the same make but not model or colour) and with swapping the number plates over and telling them I had changed my fairing at the weekend to do a trackday they were happy to take it home. They just send out whoever the local breakdown service is and foot the bill, so the person who actually comes to collect you isn't too bothered I don't think.
I will be going with International Breakdown next time I get breakdown cover as they cover you for the same price as BikeAssist but they cover you for any car or bike, so it's they're covering you for breakdowns rather than your bike. |

International Breakdown have been pretty good for me.
I would reccomend their personal cover; £68, they do do cheaper, but for vehicle only.
The personal cover covers you whatever vehicle you're in, rider/driver or passenger. They will cover you after an accident, which a lot won't. They will take you home or to your destination (some cheap ones will only take you to the nearest garage.
They have always been fairly prompt and are even happy to take a trailer as well as the vehicle. |
