Hi all,
does anyone know the difference between the the 12 digit number on the V5c (the new keepers supplementtof log book) & the 11 digit number on the actual V5 logbook?

is it just a case of knocking off the last digit or somethingr?

im having trouble taxing a bike i bought last night as the computer wont accept the ref. no.from the V5c & is asking for the the number from the complete log book Brick Wall

anyone know a way around this?

cheers,
GAZ

Looking at my v5, definitely the first number. Remove that.

Maybe I do not understand what you are trying to ask but the V5 reference number is a unique number for the V5.

It changes with every change you make to the vehicle.

e.g. Keeper, Keeper address and etc.

There is no way to substitute it as far I am aware.

If you only have the new keeper supplement you can't change details online - new keeper etc. By removing the first number from the new keeper supplement you now have a number the system recognises.

Its possible to change ownership details online and tax it then and there. New system, very easy if you have internets access when you want to ride it home. (Remember it must be insured and have a valid mot against it.)

hi all,
heres the story.
i went & bought the bike. i had insured it before i left my house, wasnt chancing 6 points, even if it was only 20miles home.

done the usual V5 thing & seller gave me green slip (V5C/2)

Seller tried to swap over ownership on-line (i didnt even know you could do that) but it can only be done up till 1900,& it was now after 9.

my battery decided to die then, (was a nightmare getting home with no sat nav btw).
got home & tried to tax the bike, using the 12 digit number on green slip, no luck. not recognised.

system also gives you the option to put in the 11 digit number, which is on the COMPLETE v5. (which i obviously dont have as seller will be posting it off anytime)
thats why im asking which number to knock off.

it could be an old log book he had. i have messaged him asking him for the number & explained the circumstances.

its a bit early to get out the baseball bat, yet.

cheers,
GAZ

Was the bike still taxed by the person you bought it off at the time of sale? Maybe you can't tax it twice and they need to know that he has sold it before someone else can tax it.

WTF You needed a sat nav to find home from 20 miles away.

You are officially lower in the IQ stakes, than a labrador and a pigeon.

it was a village in the middle of f*cking nowhere.
so i had never been there before.
no direct route home either, only unlit b roads & single carriageways leading to route home through Campsie hills.
not exactly signposted either.
quite what my IQ (I know mine, do you know yours?) has to do with directions etc.....well baffles me.

Given your rather shaky grasp of grammar and spelling, you are certainly not in a position to be throwing insults regarding intellect, or lack of.

People in glass houses, stones, you know how that one goes, eh?

Kawakid didn't say you had a low IQ, just that it was lower than a pigeon or a Labrador who could both be expected to find their way home from 20 miles away. Laughing

Christ, even wifie can find her way home from 20 miles away. I've tried to lose her but she keeps coming home. Crying or Very sad

Have you tried changing the locks? After 20 minutes fiddling she'll conclude she's at the wrong boat.
