Hi everyone, I am looking to buy a Kawasaki ninja 400 or a Honda cbr500r 2016 (second choice) as my first motorcycle. I currently have a Cbt (from jan2018) and the plan is to get the a2 licence mid September and then buy the bike within a month or a month maximum. .

However I have no idea what to expect in terms of pricing for insurance.
I am 19, I would have had a a2 for less than a month and I live in east London. I’m full time employed.

Does anyone know a rough estimate of what I could expect for the insurance price ? I don’t want anyone suggesting I buy an older bike or waiting for abit. I just want to know the price I could expect to pay.

(Edit) I forgot to mention I would PREFER to insure my bike weekly at a time. What could I be paying for this ?

Thankyou

Only you can know this by doing some on-line insurance price comparison searches. Personally I think insuring a brand new 400 Ninja weekly with your details/location will have you needing to have an urgent re-think.

But theres no 19yr olds on here who live in your street, do the same job and have just bought a new 400 Ninja and insured it who can give you an accurate estimate to the £.

Definitely use a price comparison site as stevo said (meerkats is fine) and fill out the details as if you had passed your test and for the bike models you want. Make sure you tick/untick the boxes asking if is OK for companies to contact you.

Insurance depends on where you live, where the bike would be kept overnight, how you plan to use it, how many miles a year, your job, past driving history, accidents, length of licence, level of cover you want etc etc etc. There are too many variables for anyone here to be able to give you a guide to prices. Essentially insurance companies seem to throw a dart at a dartboard and whatever it lands on gets multiplied by n and that is your price.

Incidentally it is cheaper to pay one lump sum rather than monthly instalments if possible.

Buying short term cover weekly will get very expensive, very quickly.

Insurance where you pay monthly means that you're buying a 12 month policy that's paid for on finance and you're making monthly payments to pay the finance company back.

You're 19, live in East London and want a shiney ninja 400 or CBR500R so to work out how much your insurance costs all you've got to do is think of an expensive price, times it by at least three and then add another random number to that and you might be getting close to how much the insurance company will rape you for.

Also once you've paid for the insurance be prepared for it to be lifted by the local scum within the month and then you'll only be able to afford the insurance if you win Euromillions.

Until you have a licence its all pretty accademic, really; THAT should be your priority, not what shiney you might get after.

Brand-New.... insurance aint going to be cheap; policy prices tend to be proportional to bike value.

East London?: Lol! Post code will not put you in the lower brackets!

Age and no licence? You really are up against ALL the things that put the policy prices up...

A-N-D you want to make it even MORE expensive, by 30% or so credit-charges, buying on the neva-neva installment plan?!!

But, hey, you DONT want us to offer the sensible suggestions of getting something old and ugly and cheap, or biding your time building some NCB....

So, Go-Compare.... until you have a licence its all make believe any-way!

Teflon's right. It's all pretend until you get the licence. In the meantime start to build a nice strong bunker to keep it in. (Hot weather must be affecting Mike, very short and succint!)

Unlikely buying outright, so you'd need to appease the finance people and run fully comp.

You are in East London, bikes get robbed daily, I'd not buy anything with a decent value if I ever intended to be in that region. Something cheap will go missing far less.

Your insurance will be mental. Reasons above.

You won't get weekly insurance.
