Yes, well, tried to report a found stolen bike to Thames Valley.

101? Nope. Waiting for ages, repeatedly auto-told "The wait is longer than normal", clearly implying that a wait is normal.

Website? Nope. No way to report a vehicle in the circumstances in question.

Flaming hell. What a shower. I included my e-mail address in my considerably negative feedback.

Grr!

Thames Valley = Crime Capital of Europe?

Ride it around like you stole it. No one will chase you.

Post it on their facebook page if you can't be bothered waiting for your call to 101 to get answered.

"my considerably negative feedback"

Can you not just walk into a police station and report it?

That would depend on how far away the nearest police station is and how the probably limited opening hours for the front desk fit with OP.

Recover it yourself, call non emergency number and say you've recovered a stolen bike and want to reunite with its owner.

I spotted a stolen bike in the communal carpark under a tarpaulin. No plate, missing ignition barrel.

I 999'ed it. They were keen to take the engine/frame numbers etc.

Got a call about an hour later from the local policing team, confirmed it was stolen and they'd be round to secure and recover it. True to their word they did.

Where do you stand if you were to report it as stolen and recovered it yourself to avoid the polices scammy impounding mates from getting their grubby mitts on it?
I know I would be livid if they cops recovered it 5 minutes after finding it and charging 3 figures to get it back :-\

They're some guys in Bristol who actively seek out stolen/dumped bikes and get them back to the owners. It is in cooperation with the Police though

Edit: Seem TVP are busy with other priorities!

I'd rather do that, I look fairly trustworthy though and not scum like.

You should be able to go directly to the DVLA to report that your plate has been stolen so you wont be getting any tickets if it hasnt been chopped up.

Recovered mine myself. Police did nothing but alert the ANPR that the plate is stolen. Nobody even seemed bothered that my bike got nicked. i live 30 sec from a police station too. never saw any police in the time it took to get it back. fucking useless. they never said anything really about me getting it back other than they will deactivate the plate marker.

Nearest small police station: 1 mile. Permanently closed as of ????
Nearest large police station: 5 miles. Public desk closed a couple of years ago.
Nearest large police station with open public desk: 11 miles.

I'm not exactly in the middle of nowhere. I reckon they're hiding.

When you don't want to see them, there they are. When you do? Nowhere to be seen.

Never mind.

Just post it on their facebook page.

I expect there to be a Facebook page for your local neighborhood police as well as the Thames Valley Police page so post it on both.
