I just thought I had to write this because I;d heard such terrible things about the CBR, IE size, looks, speed etc..Here is my opinion on this little starter bike..

My mate bought one, and he let me use it a bit today and yesterday, having also used the GS125, and CG125, I can say it is a far cry ahead of both, although it is just a 4 stroke commuter at heart, it feels like a much higher quality bike, in both handling and speed, although it isnt close to the speed of a 2 stroker, it (seems at least) to have a decent speed advantage over the other 2 that I have tried, As with the size issue, it isnt really any smaller than my CG, perhaps slightly lower due to it being a sportier position, at the end of the day though I think what the honda CBR 125 has set out to do, it has succeeded on, it is a decent quality 4 stroke reliable commuter, that will get you from A to B reliably, but with slightly nicer sporty looks.

The CBR125 is/has:
Faster than the CG and GS (just)
Better looking (in my opinion) than the CG and GS
Better brakes than the CG and GS
Has a more modern feel than the CG and GS
And is an all round higher quality bike, than the CG and GS.

The CBR125 is NOT:
A 125 2 stroke beater
Actually really a sports bike, at all.
Quite as ugly as everyone makes out

End comment - The CBR125 does exactly what it should, and does it well, it is quick enough for what most 125ers need, and is an excellent starter bike for someone who wants reliability coupled with sporty looks..

Don't slate me, just my opinion Very Happy

The people who slate the cbr125 are the 125 strokers usually young of age. The people who the bike was aimed at do not slate it, it is a well designed bike which does what it was made to do, just like an nsr does what it was made to do, go fast (kinda).

RooRoo how would you rate the acceleration when compared to the CG?

I would love to try out a CBR125 and a Varadero 125 to see how they compare with my Comet 125,more so the Varadero I think because like mine its a V twin.

So what does it offer me that a good condition CG125 don't, other than expensive fairing to damage when it gets dropped or crashed, higher insurance costs, and it costs more to buy than a CG does.

To be honest you'd have to try it to understand what I mean when i say a 'higher quality feel', the braking is far superior, as is the engine (im guessing this is because its a newer design) the handling is also a lot better than the CG, but at the end of the day its just another 4t commuter and so if you're strapped on cash and dont mind the looks of the CG, its almost certainly better to go with the CG, because its a much cheaper bike to run.

The CBR's acceleration feel like it is a fair bit quicker than my old GS, this is possibly because of the riding position but the engine is most definitely more powerful, my GS used to struggle to reach an indicated 65, whereas the CBR will reach indicated 75 quicker, 10mph is a big difference on bike these size.

IF you could get second hand CBR125s for say £800, I don't think anyone would be slating them.
The problem is that you are getting something that's only a little better than a £400 bike, but paying £2000 more.

As for the looks, it also suggests to me that these people are starting on the 'tarty' dark side... ignoring the fact that bikes are actually quite fun to ride and just hoping everyone else will share their aesthetic sense, and thus think they're a great person for buyng that bike or whatever.

I believe the CBR 125 second hand market might be worth getting into.
Due to large sales and bikes they will decrease rapidly in price and will become the commuter bike that everyone will plod about on. A sensible choice as if it was.

I think that they are too small, I'm about 6'1 and would look totally stupid on one. No derogatory remarks please!

I agree totally,I'm rather tall (6 foot ish) and it seemed way too small for me,and I would imagine it would be uncomfortable after a while, thats what I like about the Comet it is a very large bike for a 125 and even after riding it for most of the day I have no aches or pains!

They get you to work/collage and give you independance, and give a forgiving spirit for learners than a two stroke would.

My GF has one, they go round corners like they are on rails and ride very well, inspires confidence. Brakes, balance, suspension and riding position all give for dead neutral handling with the front end tucked-in just enough to give a sporty feel without twitchyness.

They also cost FAR, FAR too much money. The plastics are overly complex and break far too easily for a bike designed for learners.

Then there is the Varadero! Sick

And a CG doesn't? Thinking Surely the money saved will help to give you greater independance?

I went from an NSR to a CBR (only temporarily, i've got sense Wink Razz ), and it just felt like a toy bike to me. It goes well enough and sounds okay, four a four stroke it seems fairly competent, but it just feels like a toy bike. I felt like my knees were sticking out ridiculously on either side, and I don't think I'd ever want one.

although it gives u independence, it also gives u a £2400 hole in the pocket to worry about.
to 'some' people in may be the dogs boll***ks, but for what it costs, ur gonna have to wait till the second hand prices come down
