After the remodeling (see pic) all the provenance of my Suzuki GS850GN has been lost.
Is there any practical way of recovering it and proving that it's genuine?
Following that is it possible to have its date of manufacture/sale in the UK to returned that date (with or without age related plate)?

Ta very glad, old chums.

I reckon you disposed af any 'provenance' along with the bike
when you made it into what DVLA will regard as a motor tricycle
(which it is of course)

It's an SVA inspection and Q plate for you my lad.

This is the link you need, has all the details for obtaining a new registration for a custom built vehicle.

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/motorcycle-single-vehicle-approval

You'll need to complete the build before going through this process however, or it won't pass the inspections.

WD Forte. I didn't do it. Someone else (by the name Jopson?) did it in 1996 and it's already Q plated.
However my understanding (at least in cars) is that if enough a single previous vehicle is incorporated in the 'new' one it can be plated with the original year of sale.
Bikes/trikes are a mystery as (for example) what date would a Tribsa have if the frame, headstock & forks, engine and gearbox came from bikes and make/models of different years?

A Tribsa would have to be registered by its BSA frame.
Similarly, a Triton by its Norton frame.
In my experience that's how DVLA will see it as
their main concern is who to take money from.
You can change engines forks etc as much as you like
bearing in mind the MOT man and Insurance company may well
take an interest.
IMO that old GS is dead as far as they're concerned.

The problem now is that I don't know how much of the frame is left.
Was it modified or completely replaced? I don't know.
I've owned many bikes in my lifetime, but this is my first Suzuki.

Anyhoo; much to do before it's roadworthy again.
What's the legality of open headers?

If you mean downpipes only, I'd say
MOT fail for unreasonably loud exhaust if not for missing silencer.

An interesting point is that an SVA test resets the clock on the MOT...

What you have is a "radically altered vehicle". So it's a Q-plate.

Quote:
Keep the original registration number

Your vehicle must have 8 or more points from the table below if you want to keep the original registration number. 5 of these points must come from having the original or new and unmodified chassis, monocoque bodyshell or frame.

Part Points
Chassis, monocoque bodyshell (body and chassis as one unit) or frame - original or new and unmodified (direct from manufacturer) 5
Suspension (front and back) - original 2
Axles (both) - original 2
Transmission - original 2
Steering assembly - original 2
Engine - original 1

Thanks for all the info. Looks like I'll be pushing up the daisies before Rolling Thunder can get away without VED or MOT.
