https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-08-17/retired-admiral-william-mcraven-speaks-out-against-donald-trump/10131364

"I would consider it an honour if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency," he wrote.

"Through your actions, you have embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and, worst of all, divided us as a nation."

I live in the USA, outside of New York and California.

Nobody in the UK has a clue about the massive meh of indifference when this crap comes out, the BBC would have you believe Donny boy was a controversial figure. Outside of a few big cities and commiefornia no one cares. Much of the Democrat voting base don't care either. Doh!

Of course you'd say that face to face to an ex Navy Seal. Rolling Eyes

Nice to see, as usual, you brought the full weight of your intellect to bear on the matter.

Of course, it just could be a bloke who is fed up of Trump and wants his name to appear in the list of those who disagreed - nothing political about that, the man just wants to improve his legacy...

Anyone is free to hate Trump.

The problem is when they use their position of former power to do it so openly, allowing the left wing news outlets to create a headline out of it. That's the point where it stops becoming a personal opinion and becomes a political attack.

oh so only then is it a political attack? its commenting against a politician you daft bastard! if darren down at the swan has 6 pints of carlsberg and says teresa may is a cockwomble its still a political attack. Laughing

The issue is not anything to do with who the person is.
It is all to do with a narsistic despot taking the ball home when he thinks his team isn't winning.

Like I said, most Americans don't care. They also don't care what anyone in the UK thinks.

As well worn as the expression is nowadays, its virtue signaling sounding off to bash uncle Donny, doubly so in the UK where it's irrelevant to US politics.

It's tedious when people attack the guy for stuff he isn't (racist-his record says otherwise and I don't think he sees people as anything other than business opportunities regardless of colour. The sharp rise in black peeps getting chucked in jail is Clinton era) or hasn't done (separating families, the policy predates him and Donny got rid of it, Saint Obama didn't feel the need to do so and the lefterati were silent on the issue at the time because muh hope and change or something).

Getting into fights with the press, the FBI etc was a campaign promise of his. He's a poor enough politician that he actually tries to have a go at his campaign pledges.

Absolutely this. Certain sections of our media seem to want to dig up any excuse to go Trump and Brexit bashing. Ch.4 news for example - watch any report on anything at all to do with the US and see how long it is before they find a way to blame Trump for something, even when the subject is seemingly completely unconnected. Is Trump to blame for the rising violence in Chicago, as hinted at in a recent piece of theirs for example? Did he tell all those scumbags to go out and shoot each other? Or were they already doing it before he came along? And why would a mainstream UK "news" programme like that pay the issue any attention at all anyway, when they get just one hour a night to present the major news issues from all around the world?

Trump is an idiot in many ways. But he is popular because he has remembered the people that everybody else forgot, or just don't care about. And as has been shown in both his election and the Brexit vote, that's not a small minority. The people who rail against those things only have themselves to blame for their existence, and the media is stirring it up more.

It show's a strong contempt for the reality of democracy, no platforming on a grand scale, which you often see on a small scale in the media and at certain universities, usually in the rather strained guise of some holier than thou feeling of moral superiority.

Is Drumpf the greatest US president ever, christ no. Not even close.

Is he LITERALLY HITLER, going to destroy the world and the worst US president? Again not even close. Far worse abound, in living memory.

What utter nonsense

If it was you or I who said exactly the same thing, do you think ABC would be making a headline story about it and people like you would be creating threads about it to celebrate the story?

The whole point is that the plebs are supposed to take notice of what this bloke thinks because he's a retired US Navy Admiral. If he was a cleaner at the Whitehouse, this would not have made the news would it?

Utter nonsense?

And what qualifies you to determine a sense in anything?

Get off the ABC news wagon.

You or I are not famous enough for ABC to care what we say.

Famous people say and do things that make them famois. That is why they are famous.

You have a hard-on for fame.

I liken The Trumpet to The Austrian man of th e 30s.
He knew he would get somewhere by championing the popular whinge. Europe was good for the picking and the mad man picked it. Almost changed history too. Dreadful thing is that almost all the people loves him and anyone who didn't pretended that they did for fear of dire consequences.

This is the anology made about the Trumpet.

America was ripe for the picking. No one was up for the job and they got the lesser of two evils.

He can pander to the popular vote as he has nothing to lose except the presidency but it may be what the people want for the people. Whankers.

Who in their right mind believes that a politician knows better?

Rubbish. What do people fear from Trump if they don't support him? Where are his brown-shirts?

Rubbish. The point is, a lot of people are hurting and are ignored by the politicians and the businessmen who rake in all the good things for themselves, exploiting the masses as they do so. Well, in a communist state you can get away with it, but in a democracy, you have to figure on the voters. The voters just told the usual lot they'd had enough, and the usual lot have gone into shock and denial. So they'll continue to be given reason to panic.

The equating with Hitler is how the losers have had to try to come to make themselves feel better about having lost out to the great unwashed.

Trump is a populist for sure, but to try and stretch it to Nazism is pretty desperate. He appealed to the little guy who feared his job being shipped overseas or felt he was being undermined by illegal immigrants.

Worrying about the great masses of immigrants is fine if you have the time and job security but for a working schmo, your own job is the priority.

Hillary's platform was basically "if you don't vote for me a million puppies will be killed.". That may be good enough for the some but others committed the vile crime of doing what they felt would improve their own lot.

The establishment got away with it for years too, until the gap between rich and poor got too wide, and began to affect too many people. And that's when the tide turned.
If these establishment lot are so smart, why can't they come up with a strategy that helps more people? More voters? Yeah, I wish there was someone better than Trump representing them, but i guess we'll have to wait until that someone steps up to the plate.
