It may backfire as Iran is nit North Korea. Not only in the sense Trump won't get his photo op shaking little hands with the Ayotthola but also he's giving Putin an opertunity to step up Russian prescence in Arabia.

There was some yank talking head on tv who was suggesting the whole thing was pointless because the 'murican people cannit understand what Trumph was accused of doing wrong. So all a sitting president has to do is make sure his crimes are beyond the intellectual capacity of the' murican people. Its a pretty low bar.
