Cool

This one should be easy enough...

I want the specific model, as this is a very distinctive picture.

Why was that? I was actually thinking about getting a r45/65.

They had a habit of cracking where the spokes meet the hubs, but only 19" fronts, no other wheels were affected.

I can't see what size that one is in the picture, but if it's a 19", that wheel should've been replaced with the modified braced item.

I see, thank you. Jawa had the exact same issue with their alloy wheels on the 350/640. But there you just replace them with whatever Jawa wheels. BMW wheels could be a bit more expensive, challenging to find. Thinking

That's something you have to be careful of with all R45/65 parts.

Although they look the same as the R80/100, if you put the two bikes side by side, the smaller engined bike is like a 9/10 scale model, everything is slighter smaller/different and alot of parts aren't interchangeable.

Because they didn't sell as many of the smaller models, parts supply is more difficult and the prices are higher, as a result.

I did a lot of reseach into getting an R65, because their values are lower, but if you factor in the cost of replacement parts, you would be bettor off spending more money on a nice R80/100 and saving on running costs.

That does make sense. I might just buy yet another Japanese ''classic'' again. Mass production is what ensures spare parts availability.

I even had a look at some UK classics, BSA, Matchless, Norton, Ariel... not as expensive as one would thought, but the gear shifter on the right + very rare spare parts to many of those put me off instantaneously. When I say not that expensive I mean around £4K to £5K. Also those are motorcycles which price won't go down, if stored properly and riden accordingly. I have a dry, warm garage with no direct sunlight and I only ride for fun these days = perfect.

EDIT: Anyway, I think it's time for you, Shaft, to post a picture. Smile

I didn't think that would last long, very distinctive engine from any angle

Ha, I saw him in action, tiny little man doing stupid things on a massive bike!

He featured as the cover of a bike magazine at the time, with a sponsors sticker across the sump, easily in view because he was vertical Cool
