Is this really a thread about replacing a fuse in a microwave? ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

What a lovely post. Over to the "oils gears" thread? |
I do agree that a fuse swap isn't really something to brag about, but it is a start.
The most common failures of electronic devices I've experienced were just dust build up, corrosion, leaked capacitors and broken power wires/power jacks and worn brushes. All very simple and cheap to fix.
We're talking even about jobs as simple as just cleaning the contacts in the battery compartment of a electronic device to make it run again. Yet, people would just toss it into the bin and buy a new device. That's just idiotic and wasteful.
If you really enjoy keeping stuff alive, buy an old motorcycle/car and make that run nice again. Very satisfying, with nice learning curve. Going from the simple stuff to the more complicated things. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Well, it wasn't the 13A fuse in the plug, not the RCD, nor the RCBO, nor the company fuse, not the local transformer or the substation. Neither was it the slow-blow 5kV fuse for the magnetron, nor was it the legs on the transistors on some circuit board or other rubbing on the metal of the casing when the door's opened and closed.
So it was good. Lucky, 'cos my knowledge of such things is rather limited. However, I reckon if you went down to your local tip, and picked a clean discarded microwave oven, it would stand a 50-50 chance of being an easy 5-minute fix. What a waste!
Edit: Bragging not intended. Just sayin' about it. |
