Damn.. you guys have me like a kid in a sweet shop... if only I had the four figure (and some!) budget ... treat for my 40th definitely on the cards! (Only 10 years to research)..

Very jealous of some of your watches. I don’t own one at the moment bar a very chinsy gold fossil watch, hence I was looking for something with a more vintage round face

It’s between the bulova and the rotary I think...

Though I know which one I want I have to justify it ! Ha ha

Cheers for all your input , it’s appreciated

Ash

This is my Oris, I don't get to show it off often:

I'd quite like a Tag down the line but it's a bit of a stretch £££.

Anyway, fossil at that price range imo.

Have a look at Christopher Ward watches, I have an Automatic Trident which I bought after some considerable research and looking at things like Tags and Omegas. Very good quality at about half the price - maybe less than half the price in some cases.

I don't like expensive things, I break everything and treat stuff badly so I hunt out cheap, interesting watches. I am currently wearing a Vostok Komandirskie. It's manual wind, made in Russia using designs/machines from around the cold war. It might be a bit niche for what you are after, but it is cheap (£35 delivered). I wanted a bronze case watch but I'm too tight to buy anything valuable so I bought a brass cased Vostok and polished off the gaudy gold plating they come with. They take a good patina and are fairly bulletproof - parts cost nothing should they go wrong. One of the varieties of Vostok amphibia would function as an affordable automatic.

Something something Russian on a NATO.

Some of the Seiko divers are rather nice. I'm planning on making a Seiko fiftyfive fathoms (a seiko based Blancpain fifty fathoms homage).

I have a sieko 5 that i love: About as budget as automatic watches come, but keeps incredible time and i love the transparent rear case.

For non-automatic functionality I have a citizen eco drive perpetual calendar chronograph: Powered by light so no battery to replace; radio controlled so no setting the time and date; Timer, alarm, tachymeter, alternative time zones, it does pretty much everything i could need a watch to do.

I also have a cheap-ish smartwatch which i sometimes wear to track exercise but don't use much to be honest.

Dream watch would probably be a Speedmaster moonwatch - the one with the transparent back ofc.

Have you ever seen the Poljot Aviator with Alarm? I know it's quite silly to have a mechanical wrist watch with an alarm, but still, cool stuff and not expensive, in comparison with what Swiss ask for the date complication on their watches. Smile

Here's a short video: https://youtu.be/dLkInx37as4?t=32s

Other interesting brands are/were Pobeda and Raketa, the hand painted paper dials, 24h movement etc. are just amusing. There are still a lot of cool PRIM (czech) watches from the 70's, such as SPORT gen I and II, for next to nothing in alright condition. Germans also make/made very nice and affordable timepieces.

I'll bung in a vote for Seiko and Rotary. Have had both, put them to some real hard use and never managed to damage either past surface scratches. There's no discernible difference in the mechanical quality between those and my Tag Heuer, except for the fact that I'm happy to change the battery myself, rather than let go of £90 for Tag to do it.
Yes, I know it's a piss take but a battery lasts five years and I'm trying to look after it properly.

But what I'm wearing right now is a Homage watch, a Parnis black PVD Panerai style jobbie. It's got a Miyota Japanese movement in it and I've had it donkeys years, it's done everything with me as its my holiday watch and it's still in bloody good nick and keeps great time. That was circa 150 quid from memory. It's a real surprise bargain.

A picture of that one I just found.

Ah well. It's a good thing people don't have the same tastes. It would be a boring world.

The favourite one in my collection is no where near the most expensive or the best name. It's a Rotary Heritage Mechanical moonphase watch I got second hand but is immaculate.

As this has now devolved into a 'look at my watch' thread, here's my 'day to day' collection.

Cheapy Timex which I've had 10 years as a 'sports' watch, my old Citizen as a travel/diy/biking watch and the Omega for the office and smart casual.

I also have a Baume et Mercier Classima automatic dress watch, but it's in the safe and I cba to fetch it.

A Seiko 5 next I think.

Just saying. We've had Tag, Citizen, Rotary, Nomos, IWC, Oris, Christopher Ward. Just about everything bar a Patek, but not a lot that fits the original brief?

Suppose a Seiko 5, or that strangely appealing Vostok thing, would work to be fair.
