Hi All,
Been away a long while, but now back having just bought an old Transalp XL600V (DAS to be completed next month).
Been tidying up the old girl and was diagnosing a leaking exhaust gasket. Took the exhaust off the fine one of the manifold/header bolts was siliconed on...hmmm.
Turns out some monkey had broken the bolt in the past. It still had a small nub with a nut's width of thread, but that wasn't particular helpful. Was prepared to weld the nut on to get the thing spinning, but access was a little tight. In the end, came across these:

Lifesaver! I was able to get a second one of these half on the thread up against another one. Cammed them tight together and over the next 3 hours, gradually plusgassed and wiggled to free the stud. The nuts eventually gave up after a few spins and I would replace. But finally got it moving. Stud out and job done.
Happy days!
Anyway, just wanted to share myy story with these lock nuts - may help someone in the future! |
