World of Sport

Dickie Davies and his mallen streak, presenting ice speedway, ten pin bowling, stock car racing and the 3.15 from Uttoxeter, finished off by Kent Walton and his mid atlantic accent, with wrestling from Catford town hall.

What was that spy type programme with 2 blokes and a woman that had some sort of minor superpowers (nothing like marvel superheroes Laughing )?

Was about the same era as the new avengers and the Persuaders.

I don't know why, but this made me think of Hart to Hart, which is much later and WAY beyond my real nostalgia telly era, and I could only think of Robert Wagner ...

aka ... Alexander Mundy in It takes a Thief. Wub

Long before I noticed Tony Curtis as Lord Brett, Roger Moore as The Saint or 007, David Niven as Raffles, none could match Robert Wagner who was floating my boat as Alexander Mundy when I was 7 years old Laughing

Plus, now with the added mystery of ... did he do his wife in, on their yacht at Santa Catalina in 1981? Cool

Actually it was Naked Gun, Airplane! predates Police Squad by a couple of years.

Could've sworn Airplane was after Police Squad..but yes, you're right, it wasn't. Still find it hard to believe, tbh. Confused

Used to love Sledgehammer, don't think it's been mentioned yet...similar tongue in cheek style as Police Squad, but not quite as good. There was a sci-fi British series where everyone went mental and destroyed all technology, but can't remember the name.

If it was early 70's, probably "The Changes"

There was a late 90's series with a similar premise, "Invasion: Earth"

Street Hawk
Knight Rider
The A Team
Magnum P.I.

I wasn't old enough at the time, but I really like Miami Vice too. I'm basically an 80's TV fanatic.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

That's the one! Thumbs UpVery Happy

Used to leggit home and watch it in awe on my Rediffusion 12" black and white tv. Loved that series. Tempted to see if i can find it again, but then again, it might just prove to be not quite as good as it seemed at the time...

And later, of course, The Tripods.

Sunday afternoons watching the F1, Murray Walker commentating. Roast dinner on a tray sat on the sofa.
The only time we were allowed to eat away from the table.

For a brief period at the end of the 80s, ITV and C4 were experimenting with all night telly.

TVS started something called Late Night Late and I used to like watching that.

The wikipedia article is a bit feeble, as it doesn't list content, but it all seemed a bit surreal at the time. In the small hours Prisoner Cell Block H , followed by Captain Scarlet, and then some obscure movie I'd never seen, and then Get Stuffed which was a weird cooking show, and some really out there music show.

It was all linked together by an anchor, who had bags under their eyes drawn on by makeup.

There was a metal/grunge show called Raw Power then Noisy Mothers I used to record as it was hard to see those videos and bands in the early 90s.
The times it was on varied and you often caught some weird program before or after.
There was one in particular they had a big US-style truck but in the back was a high tech crime fighting laboratory. Or something ... I never saw enough to understand it.
