I'm currently mid way through my DAS course (all being well qualifying in a few weeks) and own a 125cc bike.

Does passing my full test invalidate my insurance as I'm now on a different licence from when i signed the paperwork?

e.g. can i ride my 125 away from the test centre once I've passed?

No it won't invalidate it, but you will have to ring up and inform them of your pass, then hand over many ponds as they seem to like charging you more once you have the training required to actually ride a bike Crying or Very sad

I had to cough up about £35 once i passed my test to see out the remaining 4 months worth of insurance

My experience is that the many ponds you have to hand over are due to 'admin fees'. I.e. someone pressing a button.

When I passed and called up Carol Nash they said something along the lines of "oh that's nice... so what can we help you with?".
Ie. It made no difference to anything.

^ This

That's the reason I called the insurance co - let them know I had a full licence and wanted to carry a pillion. They charged me about £25 for the pleasure, which was their "minimum policy change admin fee" or some such shite.

Yup, same here, called them up and stood bent over ready to stump up the 'admin' fee.

Absolutely you need to let them know, Carol Nash or not.
Bloody insurance companies. I recently contacted mine to let them know I had just sold one of the two insured bikes, so that for the remaining 3 months of the policy they would only be covering the one machine.

I didn't expect to get a particularly big rebate, but it did stick in my craw a bit to be actually charged a tenner for telling them... Evil or Very Mad

I told mine over the phone upon returning to the training centre but I doubt a ride home -- providing its crash free -- will make much difference.

See your policy booklet for how much you can expect to pay for a mid-term adjustment (keep a tissue for them tears, yo).

Soak it up as experience; try not to contact them -- or any other company -- for mid-term adjustment's unless absolutely required in the future (change of address etc).

I find it amazing the variation in ponds you must hand over if you tell them you want to carry a passenger.
Some just say OK whereas I've heard people have been quoted hundreds

Mine wanted a large increase if i wanted to carry a pillion, luckily my other half has no interest in being a pillion, so i opted out, but they wanted about a 50% increase in my premium to add pillion cover (luckily my premium was pretty low to start with, around £150)

I was lucky, I was able to call them to update my licence and my new bike details at the same time so only got hit by the one admin fee.

In fact, the admin fee was higher than the increase in premium (with eight months of the insurance year remaining)
