Hi all,
First time poster with limited knowledge on bikes,
Im building a autograss class 8 buggy (google it for some cool videos most use tuned busa engines and are v fast) im using a 1999 bandit 1200 engine that i got from a scrapyard. Its been years in the making as just doing in spare time, Its finally at the point it can drive, i took it out for a proper test drive up my lane-way and the clutch is slipping pretty badly. it has had a few spins before but no more than 100m around garden.
Its just worn out from being started in the wrong gear (gear selector needs fine tuning) and the fact that is now trying to move a buggy that weighs 2 or 3 times the bike..
I striped the clutch down and found the pin/rod was broken (not realy an issue got it replaced) but the steel plates are prety worn (have scrapes/bluing on them ) and the friction plates are probably worn out too.( i tried to measure with vernier was getting around 2.95-2.99 *haynes says this is ok..

SO
I have allready bought a set of barnett HD diaphragm springs which should make the clutch stiffer (extra pressure wont be an issue as have foot pedal not hand lever) is it possible to put in the 2 new HD springs along with 1or 2 of the standard ones? i seen on the websites of spring sellers not to do this but cant really trust them? anyone or would this effect the max travel of the clutch ?

I have a few options,
1 buy an oem suzuki Clutch kit new flat plates and friction plates and hope for the best..assuming the old clutch probably had 40,000k on them and then i started abusing them and smoked the last bit of them)

2 buy a set of EBC or other aftermarket "heavy duty/kevlar/carbon" flat plates and friction plates kits,
I have heard of alot of people having issues with them tho?? but i don't really care if there is small issues like judder etc as its a race buggy not for sitting in traffic,

3 Go mad and convert it to a coil spring type clutch system as used in the early GSX-R's..
On this note can anyone tell me if the clutch kit from a 88 GSX1100F would fit the bandit ?
been reading forums on the conversion jobs it seems doable and there is a full clutch from a 88 GSX1100F on ebay at moment at decent price. but i cant really be sure it will fit. below is link to the conversion if anyone's interested, anyone else done it?

here is a link to my build pics, theirs loads go rite to the end to see a video of it running and the noise of clutch slip near the end of the 45sec clip also pics of clutch plates etc.. please keep in mind this car is built from scratch in a tiny shed on my own with absolutely no plans and very limited tools..

A superficial squint at the diagram, the GSX1100F clutch does look like the slabside 1100 clutch.

Of course thats no guarantee it will be exactly the same. Some of the part numbers are different. Pay attention to the number of gear teeth and such.

Thanks for the link very handy!
Yeah it looks very similar in pics too but I emailed the guy and asked for the tooth count he said it has " 84 teeth on the basket drive itself and 66 on the primary gear" (this also links up to the link you posted that the Gsx F has 84 but the the gsx-r has 73 teeth)
which is totally different to what I have/need and has really confused me as i was reading one had 73 and the other had 72, but this one has 84?! i also imagine such a large difference the whole assembly is going to be different too.
I'm thinking the upgrade may be more hassle /expense than its worth now, if I knew the models in more detail myself I mite chance it but its sounding like i mite end up having to buy a clutch and some other bits to make one good one along with getting spacers machined etc

so the new Barnett springs arrived yesterday, considerably thicker and stronger feeling than the originals, installed them and seems to have helped a lot, before i was able to jack the back wheels up and spin them against the slipping clutch, but with new springs i cannot get the clutch slip anymore even with a 3 foot bar as a lever on the wheel it just spins the engine over.
So plan is now to put it back together fully and see if it works, but i have to wait til I get a new gasket to do that as it came away in 2 pieces last time Sad
