Labour's in a heck of a lot of trouble then, a far cry from the Blair glory years.

It could have been all so different Sad ...

Just under a decade ago Red Ed narrowly edged the leadership vote by a fraction of a percent, because he was more left wing and the unions liked him.

But what if brother David (aka Blair II) had won?
I think you'd have seen Blair style popularity winning them the 2015 election, no Brexit referendum. By now the country would have been absolutely rammed full of immigrants (except near them). House prices and landlord rents skyrocketing. Fuel prices and inflation much higher than now.

Would have been great news for Labour, banks and major businesses. Shit for the rest of us.

Bring David M. back, he can do it! Wub

A slippery scouse....

Exemplified everything that was wrong with socialist politics in the 1980s.

Chukka Umunna got a fairly mild grilling from John Humphreys on Radio 4's Today Programme this morning but it was again plain that whilst Umunna can deliver a speech given space, when cross-examined he can't take it. At one point he became a little snappy and had to use a fake laugh to excuse it and get back on track. No wonder he bailed out of the leadership race.

On the other hand, at a time when Labour needs to be damping down the flames, one of them shows true colours and crassly claims the breakaway group were probably sponsored by the state of Israeli, before taking her foot out of her mouth and backtracking. Too late! Theresa May probably can't believe her luck.

3 tories gone now too. Apparently this 'independent group' are already at 14%.
The one thing I noted they all had in common was that they were remainers, so is this the beginning of the official 2nd referendum?

Maybe I should have started a new thread rather than commenting on one started by the Deported One.

Having a single digit IQ i'm a bit confused. Are these independents in the same camp as that ex-labour one in prison. Can she join?

I'd vote for her. At least for a change you actually know what you're going to get (i.e a lying criminal).

Isn't that pretty much a given for most politicians?

Started by Valage, so invisible to those who have him on Yappy mode.

I realised that last night, I'm new to this blicking stuff Embarassed

It’s a group of snowflakes trying to overturn the democratic will of the people by blackmailing the government and Labour into not properly leaving.

Personally, as they’re all into “Peoples votes”, I think they should all hold another by-election and see if the voters agree now. Smile

There were already deselection capaigns open for most of them, so it’s more a case if jumping before they were pushed.

What are the rules? I remember one of the UKIP defectors held a by-election and lost, but didn't Zac Goldsmith as well when he left to (briefly) become an independent?

It seems odd as often people vote for the party rather than the individual.

Exactly, that's my point. Most of the time it's covered up, nothings been proven, super injunction etc.*
At least this time you actually KNOW what you're getting.

*=except for Blair of course, he was brilliant Wub

The Flounce Party reminds me of the SDP, except the SDP had some big hitters. They still ended up joining the Liberals so this lot might as well have well gone straight there, it's almost inevitable with the Libs being the 'Exit from Brexit' party.

Which makes me wonder how their vote will hold up even to what it is now.

Aren't most libdems older white middle englanders with an anti immigrant stance?

I would have thought they were more likely to be pro brexit than remain.

I thought they were the grey protest vote, then Clegg made them cool with the kids, until he royally f**ked them and alienated everyone else who realised they were no better than the big two.

Now they're the anti-brexit party or whatever they feel will win them a minuscule amount of support. The independents are already the same size Neutral

I think that Chaka Khan bloke wants to start a new party and be supreme emperor, he's probably waiting for a few more defections.

They don't seem to want to be a party with policies beyond preventing Brexit though.

Taking liberties with the word "democracy" to Val levels...
Quote:
Ms Allen rejected calls for them to step down to contest by-elections, saying: "This is what the big parties do. They want to crush the birth of democracy. They want to crush people like us trying to change things for this country.
"This is the game, of course, they will play but we are better than that, and we think our constituents and the country deserve better than that."
