Hi all,

New to the whole thing, I'm 23 and have wanted a bike for at least 6 years (probably longer). I finally took the plunge this week and will be doing my CBT tomorrow (Friday) and collecting my new (to me) CBF125 on Saturday!

Any hints about the CBT or any info on quirks of the bike would be very well received.

I'm looking forward to getting out there!

CBT- listen to instructor and try to relax. Don't worry if you don't "get" it in the first 10 minutes. You've never ridden before, it'll take some adjustment.

CBF125 - check for flux. And book your Theory test immediately and get your A1 licence ASAP and bin your Ls

CBT is good fun, relax and try to enjoy it. The bike will feel odd if you haven't ridden before but you will get used to it. Don't be upset if they suggest you do another a part/full day before issuing you a DL196 (CBT certificate), it is common.

When I did mine I was loaned a lid, gloves, fluorescent bib and an intercom. If you have any of your own kit then bring it along.

I did my CBT a couple of months back as a non driver who had never ridden a motorbike before.

Not gonna lie i found it very challenging at first (i stalled that YBR sooooooooo may times), especially the car park drills. Once you get on the road it all starts to make a bit more sense.

Listen to the instructor, chill out and trust your instructor (they wont tell you to do anything that they aren't confident you will be safe doing).

Cheers guys Smile

I passed no problem, and picked up the bike Saturday.

I'm enjoying it so far (the gearbox is so much nicer than the YBR I learnt on)!

Had to have the battery changed as the old one wasn't holding a charge, but the shop I bought the bike from were great and I'd fully recommend them to anyone (PM me if you're looking in Notts - there are a few garages/shops/dealers I felt were decent).

Thanks for the welcome!

You'll be fine. The school I went with had a lower seat I could have used. You could check if your school has similar. I'm 5'6" and didn't need the lower seat, though.
You'll probably find at first that the bike feels heavy and the power comes on quickly, but the instructor will take you through it, same as they did for CBT. You'll find that the big bike is more stable than the 125 when moving and it won't take long at all until it feels totally natural.
One tip I got which I found very useful was how to get a tighter turning circle. I'd previously been told to look where I was going (which is correct) but I still found it difficult. My instructor told me to tuck my inside elbow in to my side when turning... and there it was... no problem at all getting around in far less space than before! I still think about dropping the elbow sometimes when I'm turning in a tight spot.
Good luck, let us know how you get on!

Not necessarily at all - there's no correlation between engine size and seat height. Here's a couple of useful sites for you:

https://motorcyclespecs.co.za/index.htm
https://cycle-ergo.com/

There are also ways and means of getting your bum closer to the tarmac; eg some models have variable seat heights; others have a selection of a range of different seats available as standard; you can get standard seats modified.

But 5'5" isn't that short - check out this guy
