The burned out remains of my stolen fazer appear to have been stolen, presumably by scrap metal men.

I don't really care all that much, it was due for scrap anyway (although I did have a couple of hundred quids worth of parts on it to be taken off), but I can't see how inform the DVLA that it's a gonner?

Options from their website seem to be insurance or scrap company, neither of which is an option for me since it isn't insured and I have nothing to scrap!

Any clues?

Easiest way.

One possible way could be to , report theft to the po po, get a crime number, send paper work and a covering letter that includes the crime number to DVLA.

It’s just an idea.

What insurance company, OP has already said it isn't insured.

So could telling them it's been exported, if the frame finds itself back on the road and starts racking up speeding tickets and parking fines.

Not only does the OP start getting PCNs through his letter box, I've no doubt the DVLA have some trumped up 'false declaration' nonsense up their sleeve.

if anyone puts the frame or reg back on the road without the OP knowing then they'll have to prove it wasn't them for no insurance, no tax and any speeding tickets.

Better off informing the DVLA that it's no longer in possession

Apparently...

"The police will tell DVLA about the theft and if the vehicle is found."

Doesn't matter, it was insured once, whatever company who did insure it once can probably help and give more reliable advice,.

They're not a free advice service Confused whether you once paid them for insurance or not it's no longer their problem unless you're still paying them.

I called the DVLA today to see their advice.

The asked me to fill out section 9 of the v5 and send it to them. That's the section from scrap/breakers and doesn't really seem to work for what's going on here.

I asked if he was sure and he insisted so I'm going to try it online and just fill out the dealer details as "stolen".

Worth a go.

Assuming it doesn't leave you open to some other 'crime' (like it wasn't SORN'd) I like the idea of reporting it to the cops - at least you get a reference number if anything untoward happens in the future.

It took 4 years for a car that was stolen from me, to start clocking up parking tickets......

Report it stolen to police and get ref no. Also report it to DVLA as suggested. Keep records of both and you will have been completely honest and upfront.

It was reported as stolen last time around so that side is all covered anyway, it was never reported as found when it was recovered.

In that case I wouldn't worry about it, any one comes knocking then it's always been nicked never recovered.

I'd report the theft because it is a separate theft. You can be 99.99% sure that nothing will come from it but the only thing you can be 100% sure of is that if you don't report it then there's no chance of anything coming from it.
