My guess would be this:

He's not dead, he's just decided to stop posting for some relatively benign reason. We're all going nuts and he's either unaware or wondering what the fuss is about.

Until such time he stages his triumphant return, I have spotted a gap in the market and am currently starting crowdsourcing for a bot to replace Rogerborg's role on the forum in order to clear the speculation about him, and illuminate the way. It will use new 'clear light' technology to provide informed and slightly cynical input into the forum discussion. It will also randomly give 'agree' ratings to some long serving members, and then every so often downrate when you're not expecting it.
