Hi All,

I'm off to France next week on the Blackbird and trying to sort out EU breakdown cover. A google hasn't been too fruitful as most places won't look at me considering it's 18 years old. I have faith in her, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Has anyone got any recommendations of somewhere that will cover me for a non ludicrous sum?

Check your insurance policy. I' pretty sure mine with RH includes breakdown cover - even overseas I think.

I can strongly recommend StartRescue (they brought my trashed bike back from the South of France a month ago, without fuss).
They were good value too - they do short term EU cover as well as full annual cover for UK and EU - ie unlimited cover in both. No idea about 18-year-old bikes though

I used RAC when I took my blackbird to Germany in June. was around £50 and had roughly £20 cashback through mytopcashback...

Is it normally reliable?
If you are prepared in worst case to just leave it you aren't obliged to have breakdown cover.
France is (mostly) pretty civilised and you can do the same as you'd do here - take it to a garage and ask them to fix it if you can't manage something yourself.

I use ADAC, but- unfortuntely they no longer accept new registrations from anywhere but Germany now. Rolling Eyes

I get it through my current account - Nationwide. It costs me £15 (I think) per month. It's worked well so far although I've only used it in the UK so far.

i also would recommend start rescue.
We have a policy on my bike and the wife's car.

Start Rescue was recommended to me, but their bike age restrictions excluded me.
On investigating I found that the Start Rescue service is provided by Call Assist (https://www.call-assist.co.uk/), and that other insurers (with other underwriters) offer the same Call Assist service for differing prices and with differing T&C and monetary compensations.
I got the Call Assist service through a Cornmarket (https://www.cornmarketinsurance.co.uk/) policy that didn't have the same bike age restrictions.

Late reply here as I'm back.

Insurance wouldn't cover me without bolting on an extra, but took 7 days to come into effect, which wasn't any good. All the places I tried wouldn't touch me because of the age of the thing!

Risked it without any cover and without any problems. Next time I'll be a little more prepared.
