are any alarmed disc locks actually any good? I have had two xena xx6 disc locks and dropped both and both decided to alarm continuously so now I just use them as non-alarmed disc locks. obviously an alarmed disc lock isnt going to save your bike from a committed thief but just wondering if there are any decent ones about these days

I saw a reference on here a while back where someone held their finger over the sounder and basically muted one of the most respected alarmed disc-locks out there.

Just doesn't seem worthwhile to me, if I'm honest.

I've had two and sooner or later they just turn into a nuisance, always going off for no reason. I don't think the motion sensors they come with are resilient to inevitable rough handling while transporting.

This. I had 2. One for my bike one for the girlfriends. If it rained they both went off constantly annoying the shit out of me so I know the neighbours could hear it also. so now I just have disc locks without the alarm.

Same here, I got a xena14 alarmed disc lock and ended up taking the battery off after a month as it was constantly going off.
Still a decent disc lock though.

Scrotes know if they walk past, set it off, and walk away, for a few nights in a row, you'll leave it off instead of coming out to reset it, or your neighbours will bitch.

Use one without, better yet, use a couple without.

I had Xena alarm lock. It worked with huge chain as well, so I could carry only one lock
Great idea, but the alarm would go off when it rained. I tried making it waterproof, but it didn’t work out
Don’t know if they fixed the issue - I bought mine about 12 years ago, sold with chain about 3 years ago

New batteries for the Xena units are not cheap either. Just ordered one last week. £8

does your Xena actually work as it is supposed to? I have had two XX6's and after a while both have decided to keep alarming for no reason so I just end up taking the battery out, the construction seems pretty poor too as the back bit where the sounder is always seems to come loose and starts setting off false alarms

Sits under my seat in a sock, prison style. Mad Rarely gets used. Battery needed replaced after 4 years of it sitting
under my seat in a sock, prison style. First on my ER6 and then the current bike. It's been on both bikes maybe
3 times in that time. It's literally carried in case I want to leave the bike somewhere unattended for longer than it takes
to pay for fuel , which rarely happens. The key for it lives in the same sock, so I have it handy if necessary. I have no
fob on my bike key at all. I did have it armed while in the shed when I first got it and never had a false alarm, but the
bike is out of the wind in the shed. The large dog has that covered now. My rides are get bike out, ride it somewhere, fill
up on return journey at garage half a mile away so its parked full, then go home. Hobby rider.
