Hello,

I changed the pads on my Yamaha xt 125 today, I can’t afford to pay someone to do it properly so I had to do it myself. After putting it back together I applied the brakes several times to push out the brake pistons into the correct posistion. The rear one is working just very weak and not road worthy. The front is almost non existent.

I’m sure it’s done properly and everything is as it should be.
Also when doing the front it leaked a lot of brake fluid so I was thinking this could be a reason?
But again I’m new to bikes and can’t afford to get a professional at the moment.

Thanks in advance.
Chris

Did you bleed the brakes of air?

If it leaked lots of brake fluid then there air may have got into the system.

To bleed the brakes you need some 6mm plastic tubing a bottle some brake fluid an 8 spanner and patience.

How to do it?

Open the master cylinder and make it is filled with brake fluid.

Put the spanner on the bleed nipple.

Put the plastic tube on to the bleed nipple.

Pour some brake fluid into a bottle and submerge the end of the tube into the bottle. Pump the brakes a few times then undo the bleed nipple.

Repeat until you get all the air out the system.

Leaked fluid from where? You shouldn’t see any brake fluid when changing pads.

Did you split the caliper to change the brake pads?

You shouldn't have had brake fluid leak as said.

Where did it leak from?

Do you know how to bleed brakes?

If you had to pump the brake several times you have done something wrong (or lost the fluid).

You need someone who knows what they are doing to show you first time as you have basically fucked up.

Can't this thread be ditched and the other similar one used for discussion?
