another problem is noise - there's no way this thing is getting past an MOT without a baffle of some sort.

I'm confused. Is that with the straight-through pipe, or with your invention?

with the straight through pipe - havent made my invention yet haha

Hi all

Just wanted to ask everyones opinion on the above. So I've bought a little cg125 that I'm turning into a brat/cafe type thing for city commuting. Just a daily rider type thing but want it to look nice.

When I bought it, it had a totally rusted and holed muffler, but the header pipe was fine so I chopped the muffler off and stuck on one of those straight through cafe style mufflers. Obviously this being a 125 this is not a great idea in terms of low end power so I was trying to figure out a way I could keep the look but get back some of that low end power so I can pull off from lights at least faster than a granny on a mobility scooter.

As you may have guessed I'm a novice at customising, but I really enjoy building things so after a lot of googling it appears (correct me if I'm wrong) that a longer exhaust will increase low rpm power but restrict the top speed.

As above, it's for zipping to work on through heavy traffic so not bothered about top speed, more Interested in acceleration. Its rarely going to be getting to 50mph in town so as long as it can go that fast I'm happy. With this in mind I thought I could build a baffle type insert for the muffler that would effectively increase the distance exhaust has to travel, having the same effect as a longer exhaust but still give me a short length visually.

I've attached of picture of an idea I was thinking of building to fit inside the muffler can. Can anyone tell me if my thinking is right here? Will this give me a little more low end power? Ideas welcome!

Cheers[/img]

I commend your attempts at customising but a 4 stroke 125 in standard form is about as good as its ever going to get performance wise.

Why don't you just buy a used standard exhaust for cheap off ebay, so it runs properly and doesn't look/sound gash/offensive?

If you really want more performance then you could maybe mess with the sprocket (usual is a smaller sprocket on the front or bigger one on the rear for more acceleration).

What tyres are they? I assume they've got "whiskers" because they're new, but it's hard to see on the pic/this PC.

Why have you got a French stick where the seat is supposed to go?

I think after all this highly constructive and enlightening criticism you should
all send me a few picture of your bikes so I can see what continental foods and gardening equipment I can compare them to??

To be fair, you've taken a bike which was perfectly usable and fit for purpose and reduced it's ride, comfort, power and handling, all in the name of image.

It all comes across a bit Hipster and that's not everyone's cup of tea. Some of prefer to ride bikes, rather than try to look retro cool on them.
Going purely by how you think in your own mind that you're improving this bike, I suspect you'll have an over the top beard and live in a converted warehouse in London.

Wow you really are pretty up yourself aren't you?

So I'll answer your points:

1. I bought the bike as a non-runner with no MOT. So everything I've done is an improvement

2. If I wanted your opinion on taste I would have written a post with 'please approve of me' as the title. I don't care what you think k or what your tastes are. Not Interested and to be honest that's not what this thread is even about anyway.

3. I live in a terrace in Bristol. You have no idea who I am or what I've been through in my life so keep your remarks about my personality to yourself.

4. If you're not going to help why don't you just get back in your box? Keyboard warriors like you are what make this site annoying and why I keep posts to a minimum.

Rant over

Oi! That was supposed to be a joke. A nut-loaf. You sit on it and.... Urgh never mind. No wonder my Chrsitmas-cracker insert business didn't pull in any trade. No wonder my Art is pooh-poohed, dismembered and misunderstood https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=4581068 it's enough to drive one to drink.

Yeah some of us have not got the money to live in a normal flat when we're trying to get on our feet in London - we haven't all got jaguars and a silver spoon up our arses mate.

Also, the 'some people have a problem' appears to only be you! Please just stick to the topic or find a new thread to troll man. So weird looking I to people you don't know on LinkedIn in order to prove some point noone gives a shit about.

All you've put forward to this thread is snide comments and banging on about stuff unrelated to the topic. Get a life man. Weirdo.

Why didn't I think of that?! That's way easier that sewing your own seat!

I've got a lot to learn, theres no substitute for experience I guess!

One on the things that experience teaches you is 'why waste time on sewing your own seat when it came with a perfectly serviceable one?'
