Bike Insurance brokers

Morning,

So my O/H has gone and bought another motorbike after their last one was nicked a few years ago. They had a mild heart attack at the quotes £1,500! This was from the usual comparison sites.

History:
Attained CBT Summer 2014
Fault claim against car late 2014 (£1250 cost)
Passed Full Cat A in 2015
Bike stolen (YBR125) in 2015 (£1500 cost)

Not ridden or owned a bike since.

Obviously the claims and the lack of experience is going against them, so I'm thinking perhaps Meerkats et al aren't the best place to be looking.

Anyone have any recommendations of smaller brokers who might be able to help find somethign a little less expensive?

Start calling companies directly as brokers don’t always get the best deals. Check if their bank does insurance as you may be able to get a discount there. Or go throgh AA/RAC etc.

Use Meerkats as a starting point but be prepared to spend a few hours ringing companies directly, I usually start with the cheapest on the list and work from there on. Your partner may have to take a hit for that first year to make savings later on. What sort of prices are they getting? Do they have any way of reducing the cost by fitting trackers/alarms?

Also, who buys a bike first without checking insurance!!!!

I was successful this year by calling a company for a quote, saying what prices I was being offered, as a region. Strangely, the price I paid eventually was half the price of the original offer from the telephone jockey script reader.

One trick that works with car insurance is to add an experienced driver (with zero claims) as a named driver, i always used to add my Mum as a named driver and it always used to bring the premium down

But like above, why you no check prices before purchase???

You really won't be helped by 2 claims within the last 4 years, and presumably zero NCD (as not ridden for 3 years), poor obs OP, poor obs

Cancel the PCP finance within the 14 day cooling off period.

Find out what's affordable to insure before buying anything else.

Hint: It's not going to be a new bike on PCP which requires fully comp.

Alternatively, he could bend over and lube up.
