Warped rear brake disc

Whilst oiling my chain tonight, I noticed that my rear brake disc appears to be slightly warped.

I haven't noticed any irregularities yet when riding and using the rear brake though.

Do I need to get this fixed asap or am I ok to continue to ride it for a while?

You can continue to ride with it so long as its not too bad.

Spin the back wheel up with your hand and see if the warp actually causes the wheel to stop before it can do about 2 rotations.

Is you notice the disk heating up alot, or the bike bouncing under braking then replace it ASAP

if the disk is warping to one side quite strongly, you might end up with one brake pad always wearing out very quickley, because the disk may be rubbing on one of the pads even when you are not breaking...

if you take the disk off, you could get it pressed...

Thanks for the advice.

I've just been on to my regular parts dealer and it's 105 quid for a new one (plus labour unless I do it myself), so I'm thinking about it. Really don't like to compromise where safety is concerned.

Also found this article which reckons that discs rarely warp, rather it's a problem of irregular buildup of pad deposits. The article is actually about cars but I would imagine the same principles apply.

Rear disks are almost always solid, and you should be able to get a pattern solid disk for around £60.

I have certainly had problems with disks appearing to be warped but actually being rubbish on the disk.

hav u looked on ebay, there are usually some new disks on their very cheap!

If your disc is warped due to the pads one side rubbing on it, then the caliper piston is not receding into the caliper after braking. Try putting new seals in the caliper, that should sort it out.

Try stealth disc they advertise in MSN and charge £50 per solid disc.

But disc do warp sometimes but definitly check the caliper see if the slider moves properly and the piston moves in and out properly.
