What he said.
if the disk is warping to one side quite strongly, you might end up with one brake pad always wearing out very quickley, because the disk may be rubbing on one of the pads even when you are not breaking...
if you take the disk off, you could get it pressed...

Thanks for the advice.
I've just been on to my regular parts dealer and it's 105 quid for a new one (plus labour unless I do it myself), so I'm thinking about it. Really don't like to compromise where safety is concerned.
Also found this article which reckons that discs rarely warp, rather it's a problem of irregular buildup of pad deposits. The article is actually about cars but I would imagine the same principles apply.
