Well, apart from food!
Quote: | Based on the farm-gate value of unprocessed food in 2015, the UK supplied over half (52%) of the food consumed in the UK.
The leading foreign suppliers of food consumed in the UK were
countries from the EU (29%) with Africa, Asia, North and South America, all providing a 4% share of the food consumed in the UK. |
HTH. |
I’m talking about exports of goods. You’re talking about us importing food for some odd reason.
If you want to talk about food, maybe out of the EU, our farmers can compete fairly for the U.K. food market instead of being priced out by EU subsidised imports?
Like milk coming by road from Poland, being cheaper than U.K. farmed milk. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Yes I was. Try reading it again. We do the majority of OUR trading/selling/exporting, however you want to call it, outside of the EU, mainly under WTO already.
The reason we have to do this under WTO is the EU is a protectionist entity which has no free trade deals in action from any of the ROW top economies. It’s designed so countries like Germany can flog us their goods at a competitive advantage to non EU imports and the tariffs involved, which other than a few crappy economies, which the EU had free trade deals with, is pretty much all the main ROW economies.
I’m struggling to see how you read that differently. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

54.4% of exports ( by value) are to EU countries, a small majority but a majority non the less.
Of greater interest are the changes, US trade fell by 5% in 2016 ( the latest available figures, I believe but will accept correction), that is a heck of a lot monetarily from the UK's largest sole trading export destination.
France and Turkey, on the other hand, recorded a significant increase, along with SK. ____________________ Make mine a Corona. |

Around 40% of exports go to the EU, but only because the policy currently favours trading with the EU. The 55% figure is inaccurate as it includes the "Amsterdam effect" where goods exported from the UK via the EU to a final destination which is outside the EU are claimed as an "export to the EU". Furthermore, deal or no deal, the UK is going to continue to export to the EU, and the EU is going to continue to export to the UK, despite what tin foil hat remoaners like to claim. Then again, remoaners claimed that leaving the EU means a world war, so the tin foil hat is strong with them. |

Depends where you get you data from. The latest I can find from the ONS disagrees with that, although this was from 2016. Your link doesn't really give much info on it's sources, although it specifies "European" not "EU" for it's 54% figure.
Quote: | In 2016, the EU accounted for 48% of goods exports from the UK, while goods imports from the EU were worth more than imports from the rest of the world combined.
But the share of UK exports of goods and services going to the EU has fallen, from 54% in 2000 to 43% in 2016. |
Even Al Beeb seem to back this up...
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-43212899
https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/624/cpsprodpb/391C/production/_100202641_chart-eu_exports-ca1kq-nc.png
Your 54% figure could well have been the peak in 2006.
Quote: | The figure for 44% of UK trade being with the EU was cited a lot during the EU Referendum - it's actually a 2015 figure just for exports of goods and services. The 2016 figure was 43%, worth about £241bn, and it has indeed fallen from about 54% in 2006. (The figures for UK exports to the EU are here - total UK exports are here.) |
That's the problem with Google, anyone can find something to back their agenda. It's up to other posters to pull the figures apart. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Your figures are miles out. Even the UK Parliament thought the EU made up only 44% of our exports last year.
Quote: | The EU, taken as a whole is the UK’s largest trading partner. In 2017, UK exports to the EU were £274 billion (44% of all UK exports). UK imports from the EU were £341 billion (53% of all UK imports). |
https://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/CBP-7851
I suspect your link is either using 10 year old figures or was researched with a pro Eu agenda. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

The Scottish are a thrifty bunch, and do hate anything remotely related to the English. Now if it said "Made in Scotland" on it.....
Joking aside, there is a notable lack of pride in manufacturing in this country, unlike the US. Go on any US based forum, whether it's for guns, bikes, motors, woodworking etc, and there's always a bias toward Made in USA when discussing products. The only time I've really seen that on this forum is Hood Jeans who were also offering great service, product and price. |
It's interesting to see that the USA are also very proud of their country and patriotism is actively encouraged.
In "Multicultrural Liberati" Britain, it's is actively frowned upon to show any kind of national pride. Doing so gets you branded as a racist and an outcast.
This, I reckon goes a long way into why we're no longer looking to buy British goods. This country is broken and it might be too late to fix it now. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Oh of course. I expect nothing less from a nasty champagne socialist like you.
They don't debate on Internet forums, they just throw bile at those who dare hold a different opinion.
As Khan would say, it's all part and parcel of debating politics on the Internet. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.
