Don't see why not, as long as you still have a valid Insurance Policy

Surely the insurance would have to cover you while doing the CBT, and as you don't currently have one, it's unlikely you're insured?

Same as when people want to take their tests on bikes?

Might be worth checking with the place he is doing his CBT, as he might be covered under their policy whilst under tuition

I knos when i did my CBT, there was a lass doing her's on her own bike after her CBT had expired (though she had ridden to the test centre beforehand, tut, tut)

OR, just do it on the schools bike

Just because the cbt has run out, doesn't necessarily follow that the insurance is no longer valid, although obviously somebody will have to get the bike to the cbt training area. When my daughter did her cbt last week, her insurance covered her for the day, and for 30 days without her cbt, whci would have come in handy if needed..

Of course, you should check with your insurance company first

Where my nipper did hers, it was a case, use your own bike if ou have insurance, if not, have to use on of the centre's bikes.

Oh, surely, it make sense, to do get a full license, even if you have no intention of getting anything bigger than a 125, can forget about cbt's forever then !!

Cheers all for the replies.

I've checked my insurance and it doesn't mention anything in regards to having no valid insurance If the cbt has ran out - just that it ends 5th Nov.

Training centre have said you won't be able to ride to the centre and take your cbt on your own bike but didn't mention anything about If I got a lift there with it.

I guess the worse case scenario is get to the centre and they say you'll have to use our bike.

Yep, I know I should aim to pass the full test in order to avoid future cbt's but 2 years has flown by!!

You can do it on your own bike if your CBT runs out, Your CBT is issued to cover the day you are at the training school too.

As for getting the bike to the yard. The majority do not care how you get the bike there and they are not the police. I dont give a shit how your bike gets to the yard, I would never advocate riding illegally but as far as it goes with my students. I did not see you ride in.

I'd assume it's similar to riding under instruction on a larger bike.

Your CBT allows you legally to ride a 125cc bike on L plates on your own

It also allows you to ride a larger bike if you are under tuition with a radio link to a qualified instructor.

Insurance is not in question above.

If you've insured a larger bike to do your tests on, the insurance allows the bike to be on the road, ridden by you if you are complying with the law.

I would presume the same is true when it's CBT, you are under instruction so you are legally on the road - riding in accordance with your licence (or lack of)

But it may be worth a quick call to the insurance company
"hey, didn't get chance to re-new my CBT before I went away, not been riding the bike as it's expired, got it booked to re-new and arranged with a mate with a van to get the bike to the centre to do it, am I covered under tuition while I re-new?"

I know the training school I did my tests with used to arrange to 'collect' trainees re-taking CBT by riding to their house to escort them, under tuition, to the centre.
