Hello.

I have a GSF-650 motorcycle for the A2 tests. MOTed, insured, taxed. And I have my CBT and Theory test pass certificates. But apparently I need a piece of paper that says it's restricted to 46bhp. Must a restriction certificate be signed by a dealer or can anyone sign the certificate?

Does anyone know if the test centre will care if the certificate is from a dealer or not? Anyone ever forged a official dealer certificate before?

Apparently you don't need this pointless piece of paper once you've passed the tests, but you need it for the tests for some reason.

Thanks.

Did you read this -

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=277415&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

It strikes me as somewhat inconclusive, but it might be worth a read if you've not seen it (even though it is five years old).

https://www.gov.uk/motorcycle-test/motorcycles-mopeds-you-can-use

Engines with restricted power
You can restrict the engine power of a motorcycle so that it fits within subcategory A2 (20 to 35kW). You can’t restrict it below half its original power.

Example
If the unrestricted power of the motorcycle is 60kW, you can’t restrict it any lower than 30kW.

You must bring proof if you’ve restricted a motorcycle to subcategory A2 - if you don’t your test will be cancelled.

The proof must:

be on headed paper
be from a main dealer, official importer or recognised specialist
show the motorcycle’s number plate (registration number)
You can’t use a dyno test certificate as proof of the restriction.

If you have a restrictor kit, then it must be fitted by a bike mechanic, diy fitment isnt accepted by the DVSA, It sucks big time, but its a case of their playground, their rules I'm afraid

@trevor saxe-coburg-gotha
I have already read that thread, wasn't very useful unfortunately, but thanks anyway.

All I need is that piece of paper. Looks like it's going to be difficult to get. Don't suppose anyone knows whether they would actually ask for the certificate or care if it's not from a dealer, probably will do though.

Perhaps they would accept a genuine dealer forgery...

Thanks.

The examiner will most definitely need to see the restriction certificate, it needs to be fitted by a mechanic. Get the relevant restrictor kit from ebay, kickstart engineering make em, they supply all the paperwork, take it to your local independent bike garage, ask the mech to 'fit' it and fill in the paperwork, take the bike to test, job done. Not difficult.

If the examinor is in any way dubious about the restriction paperwork, he will refuse to conduct the test

Have you got any mot invoices lying around? Scan it, steal the header and put "fitment of restrictor kit to Suzuki gsxf reg ky12 5fg (or whatever) cost of £120 + Vat) and print it"

Yes it's fraud, yes it's naughty but really, who's going to check and who's it hurting?

Once you leave the test centre having passed, set fire to the evidence, along with your L plate. I doubt the test centre will keep any records of the paperwork, they only take your licence.

@tbt
Any motorcycle shop can sign that quality piece of paper then? That makes life easier. Thanks.

@DrSnoosnoo
That could be a good idea. I don't have an MOT invoice lying around but a mate might have one I could maybe adjust to my motorcycle and add restricted text. Cheers.

When I had the (badly designed exhaust insert) restrictors fail on my 535, my local indepenent wouldn't go near it for legal reasons You'll need to talk to mechanics and find out what they are prepared to fit.
