I have just checked and from April 2019 my bike (a 12 year old Fazer) will be subject to a £12.50 a day charge, as it's parked on the street and I live inside the boundary of the North Circular & South Circular Roads.

I imagine that there are THOUSANDS of other bikers who ride older bikes into Central London who are not aware of this change.

Thanks to our Mayor I am now going to have to get rid of my bike which has just passed its MOT and either get a new one or just not bother with a bike any more.

The pollution this is supposed to curtail is caused by the mismanagement of the roads by TfL and kowtowing to the cycle lobby.

I am REALLY pissed off!

This has been widely discussed on this forum for a while.

I'll buy your fazer for £200 worth nothing in the south now, I'll bring it to the North where we're still allowed to use them, because we're all poor scum bags obvs.

It gets worse too..

ULEZ boundary expansion
From October 2021 the ULEZ will expand to the North and South Circular Roads. All motorcycles within the expanded zone will need to meet the ULEZ emissions standards or pay a daily charge.

.. Your Fazer emits a paltry 15g/km of Co2 also. Cars clog the roads not motorcycles which account for less than 1% of traffic. Miserable bastards.

I have a similar issue, in that my work is within the proposed new ULEZ. I don't have the ability to be able to vote out the current mayor though but I do have the ability to sell my bike before it becomes an issue as I live far out in Basingstoke!

I'm thinking Z1000SX or something?

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

ULEZ > my CBF600(04).
Just going to see if i can get it to the 100k mark before i replace it (about 16k to go).

at the moment i'm thinking of a NC750 for much tight wadness.
or a Tracer 700/900 for much wheelies.

yeap the ULEZ is a tit of a wanker face!

my dream bike is on an 05/06 plate but im now forced to get the newer model which isnt as good as my dream bike.

i just need to win at least £500k on the lottery so I can leave this crap called london and live in the remoteness of north west scotland!

the only great thing about london is that at anytime in the day you can get what ever you want from the shops...........meh!

which ULEZ zoning are you going by? the one in 2019 is going to be this one:

https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/ulez-where-and-when?intcmp=54312

It isn't until 2021 when it will go out to the north and south circular.

My work is just outside the boundary at St Mary's hospital paddington so got lucky there, but by 2021 will need to get a new one, it is a shame as I like old sports bikes as they are more roomy (6ft2 20st), so looks like I am going to have to get something a bit chunkier in a newer bike, perhaps africa twin maybe but budgets are tight so maybe an NC700 or whatever they are called Rolling Eyes Crying or Very sad

Yep, where have you been this last few years?! Yes, it is shit news, but it's most definitely not new news. Yes, are decent, solid, robust, economical, reliable and cheap to insure bikes are all being penalised unjustly and unfairly (compared to other more polluting vehicles). Yes, it's all happening, and no it's too late for any exception like MAG have managed to win against the Birmingham emission zone.

Just moved up from my old Fazer as I work in central congestion zone, got a slightly newer FZ6 S2, so far doing the job grand and didn't break the bank. Probably end up taking the old FZS600 to family up North to flog, as it's clearly only worth £200...

Well I googled 'Lez Checker' and it only took three hours....ahem.

Any road, after a few..er..distractions, it seems my bike is Lezzy compliant.

Yay me.

I predict an increase in the number of bikes (and maybe cars) with personal plates lolol.

Is this right? Anything in class 'Historic' ULEZ exempt? Fairly ironic to ride my GT250 2-smoke into the centre of err.. 'The Smoke'..

Yes, that's what I read on the TFL site about exempt vehicles

Bath is consulting (which of course means has already decided to go ahead with) about its own proposed clean air moneyspinner.

https://www.bathnes.gov.uk/bath-breathes-2021-overview

Quote:
Vehicles that would be charged in the zone
Drivers of the following higher emission vehicles would be charged to drive in the zone because they do not meet the minimum emissions standards:

Pre-Euro 6 diesel vehicles, including hybrids (older than approx. 2015)
Pre-Euro 4 petrol vehicles, including hybrids (older than approx. 2006)
National and proposed local exemptions would apply. In addition, local concessions would give certain groups more time to adapt.

Tip of the iceberg but in the short term basically everybody with a diesel older than 2015 Shocked is paying £9
quid a day to drive round Bath. My 2012 Transit connect 1.8TDi is DPF equipped and that's considered too dirty
and old for Bath, so there is going to be a LOT of people with older tattier vehicles than that which will have
in effect become worthless overnight. My van is just 6 years old and has many 1000's of miles and usage left in it.
What they are saying in effect is that you can't keep a vehicle for more than 6 years before its effectively just scrap.
So I scrap a perfectly serviceable van, and buy a new one. Will the new one be manufactured with zero environmental
impact? Course not! I'd love to see the figures for how much emissions one vehicles manufacture causes and
how that weighs up against continuing to use my existing van for 6 more years. I bet buying a new van does more
damage than keeping the old one.
