Yes, that's the jobbie. After over 50 years, the "rubber" has gone all funny.
I'm tending towards a plaster-of-paris mould and some RTV silicone, but that's possibly rather too soft & floppy. |

Here you go!
This is the shop of a specialist chemical supplier - I reckon one of the polyurethane compounds would work. Message the seller and ask because they seem to have an inexhaustible combination of products.
If it's any help - polyurethane is often used for the tyres of bandsaw wheels to grip the metal saw blade. Might be worth a try??

Edit: It's flat, not domed at all, and about 1/4" thick. The lug is joined to a large flat "washer" about 2 1/2" in diameter embedded in the rubber, which is about 4" in diameter. |
I'm all for repair and re-use but what about replacing it with the 'G-clamp' version (plenty on ebay) or even converting that one? ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750

Thanks... I think it was Comma, since I had some lying around (I misguidedly painted a Morris Minor van chassis with it); same thing but cheaper & possibly not the same quality. Those Spong mincers are actually very good things. |
