|
|
Ok, so on way to work and bike just cuts out completely. Had issues the day before, hit the start button and everything goes dead. Left it for a minute, electrics come back on, but still won't turn over. Play around with clutch switch, sidestand, and then it fires up no problem. Ride to work and it's fine. Leave work and same agin, but again fires up eventually.
Get home, check under seat, everything looks ok, except terminals on battery are a little loose. Tighten them up, test it, all good, leave it for a while, still all good.
Fires up this morning no probs, but halfway round the roundabout engine just stops.
Still have electrics, but won't start. No clicking when hitting start button, nothing.
Battery is fine (putting out 12ish volts when checked yesterday, and 14ish when running) and it's not the starter or it wouldn't have stopped when running.
Anyone have an idea as to what it might be? ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |

Is it a Mk1 (2007-2009) Street triple? If so, have a look at this thread:
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=325271
Also check the regulator rectifier, the battery and the ECM fuse.
Does the dash light up? Do the indicators and brake light work? If so, and nothing else works, then what happened to me has happened to you. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

Thanks for all the suggestions, all, much appreciated. Just got home ready to try them all out one by one, but glad to say i've now fixed it, and it was embarrassingly easy one.
As i was about to start pulling everything off, i thought i'd see what the little black box thing under the seat was. I'd tugged at it this morning along with all the other wires/connectors when i broke down, but didn't occur to me to actually pull it apart and push it back together.
First thing i tried when i got home, and as soon as i did, it fired up straight after.
It's this thing here;
https://www.planetash.net/bcf/bastard.jpg
Not even sure what it's for, as in what it actually is connecting to what, but the main thing is that that is what was the problem.
Glad it was such a cheap and easy fix, but feel a bit daft not figuring it out at the time. Had a hour's walk home after work as well. That was shit. Fuck walking!
Anyway, again thanks everyone! ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |

It's a 2008, bacon. It's had two previous owners, the guy i bought it from never mentioned anything, but the first one might've.
I'll have a look on t'ebay for some, cheers! ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |

Think you're right, looks exactly the same. Thirty quid?!? Blimey.
Anyway, as it's there, and i've been thinking about fitting an alarm, maybe this one, but the blurb says;
"Datatool S4 Green - upgrades bikes or scooters already fitted with Thatcham approved Category 2 immobilisation to full Thatcham Category 1 status"
I'm not sure if it already has Cat 2 immobilisation...is there any way to check? ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |

Yeah don’t pay £30 for that
Asked my dealer for the bypass plug to test something and he gave me one for free.
Don’t know much about alarms sorry, you could try the street-triple.co.uk bunch, generally quite knowledgeable about this stuff.
@bacon yeah I had a few incidents where it seemed to be the immobiliser playing up, red light blinking on the dash and just wouldn’t start. As usual the moment I got the plug it stopped happening and then I got shot of it shortly after as I fancied a change. ____________________ Observation is the greatest source of wisdom. |

That connector is an OE part of the wiring harness to blank off the connector that the alarm is fitted to. It's usually shrink wrapped, so the fact that it isn't suggests that an alarm has been fitted & removed at some point. It should be coated with dielectric grease, if it isn't then give it a coating and then cable tie it back on to stop it coming back off. ____________________ BCF: Be yourself, just don't be an arse. |
