PostPosted: 15:46 - 08 Nov 2018    Post subject: Help with Suzuki Marauder GZ125 Reply with quote

Hello guys, I'm sorry if this isn't the right place, but I made an account on these forums just to ask for assistance and if anyone is able to provide an answer that would be great!

So my brother has a Marauder, GZ125 and it's recently died, we went to a mechanic and from what they have said he needs a new CDI, specifically a 26 pin...now my brother has counted the pins and confirms that's what is needed, I'm not sure if he's correct or not but I've done some searching and I can't for the life of me find relevant information that confirms this, and the mechanic can't even find any 26 pin CDIs, I've looked on eBay for some and also specified the make and model and none of those are 26 pin....

Does anybody know if this is correct, that he indeed needs a 26pin CDI or whether the previous owner fiddled with it? And if it is or isn't the correct one, could anybody point me to the one he needs?

Thanks in advanced Smile

What year is the bike?

What part number is on the CDI that's currently fitted?

Yeah I had seen before, but wasn't very sure if it would work or fit? Could you reassure me of this? Also do you happen to know if it is common for GZ125s to have these CDIs?

Thanks for your reply Smile

PT no 7. Not available, but at least you're looking at the right manufacturer.

Looks like you're able to use an 02 to 11 one when looking on eBay.

The one in your pic looks like a botched Yamaha one.

Nobby has put it nicely and found a link but poor pics.

If getting an abusive off you is the price for getting you to admit that your shite advice is wrong I can live with it.

Back onto the enemy list for you. At least I won't see your fucking appalling advice any more. Let's just hope it doesn't kill someone.

How do you know it's faulty?
Your calling it a CDI when it's actually an ECU makes me wonder is all

CDI are pretty simple in comparison, with say 6 - 8pins
Your 26 pin ECU has many more more inputs and may not trigger sparks if certain conditons are not met.

I'd suggest testing not guessing

I can't see the base of your CDI, is your GZ fuel injected or carbed? I can't remember when they changed over, My K6 was carbed and cylindrical exhaust, K2 had a megaphone.

beware parts for the german market, i understand they were limited to something stupid-slow like 80km/h

Its very easy to blame the black boxes when a bike stops working, because often the only way to test them is to buy a new one and see if it fixes the problem. Actually testing the unit you have is usually very difficult and requires time, expertise, and expensive test equipment.

The problem may be something else entirely. It is usually something far more simple, those expensive sealed black boxes are very reliable.

There are two things you should do:
1. Tell us how the bike died so we try some armchair diagnosis.
2. Find someone with the same model of bike as your brother and try to borrow their ECU to see if problem is fixed. Also try your suspect ECU on their bike.

Yeh, how did it die??

If its fuel injected, did you heart a pump running ( in the tank possibly ) for a few seconds when the ign was switched on and not started, which then cut off ??

Can you hear that pump running now?

Do you have HT, those darn red neon plug caps again.....

Plenty of fuel in the tank and the filter is ok......

get a wiring diagram, that can only help....the picture with the 2 broken pins, water ingress??

Can suzi uk technical help in any way ? Kawasaki uk are brilliant, extremely helpful !!

over to you.
