Having never really seen them before I realised I need one in my life... Along with a lathe and all the other tools he uses

I have all the tools to do that, and more. Smile
Just need to do that though.

The vice is a good make. It was well worth the time and effort to restore.
There are much much worse vice makers India and China and Russia make some of the most desperate apologies for engineer's vice.

German, American seem to be the better ones.

When he used the homemade puller tools to pry the jaws apart I expected the jaw to break off and smack him in the lips. I'm kinda disappointed. 😞

It's a sort of nice job, but I wonder why. Perhaps he's going to sell it, or stick it on a shelf and look at it.

/\ Clueless.

One uses it to clamp ones blood engorged bell end in. Firmly.

Do they still make those? I don't think I've seen one that's less than 20 years old. I wonder if making something so well has damaged the business.

All my Record vices are probably as old as me. Still go for good money at auctions etc.

Jap's Eye?

Good vices are obscenely expensive compared to the Ching Chong (scrap/recovered bicycle frames) ones from PROC. Those POS are the most unreliable shit ever to set foot in an engineering environment.

Fuck me. I have a Record vice on my bench at work and I’ve given it some right hammer, caught it multiple times with a grinder and even got a bit giddy with a drill and went right into it.

Didn’t realise it was worth a grand!

I might have to take that with me when I leave...

Good luck with that plan.

The company that made my vice at work went bust in the 1920s Mr. Green

When I leave I'm taking it with me. It's a lovely thing.

I can think of all sorts of things for renovation but I can't say that a vice was one of 'em.
