well i can finally afford it, so next month i'll be taking my A2 test, and probably getting a cb500, question is, after ive got the 33bhp kit on it, is it worth removing? or should I leave it on? I know on mopeds and 125s everyone (mostly) removes the restrictors, but do many people do it onthe A2 test?

Depends by what you mean bytt worth removing it and it's something you need to decide. Remove it and you have the full power, you also are risking (the very small chance) of being caught riding without a license and insurance and getting slightly fucked. Never heard of anyone being caught, but you could be. Lots of people do ride without their 33bhp restrictors as the chance of being caught is very low.

I myself will be in this position soon. By removing the restrictors you are riding a bike which above the power of what you should riding aka illegal. It's a decision you have got to make, i've made mine and i'm going to take the risk.
Nice choice of bike by the way Thumbs Up

depends on age etc

£1200 would get you a decent old one, and £2000 for a decent newish one.

I worried about this sort of thing for ages when i had the RS125. I could stay at 14.6 ragging the hell out of it everywhere or put the power valve back in and let it run properly. So in the interests of the bike I put it in. How much above 33bhp will a CB500 be? Will it make a big difference (this isn't sarcastic I genuinely don't know)!

CB500's are 57BHP and the older ones with intergalactic mileages start from about £700.

The GPZ500 is a better bike anyway, and they start about £500 and they have a decent fairing my 500cc FAQ is in my Sig so have a ganders, tells you most things you need to know about the 500's Smile.

Roo, we've gone over this many times on here.
There's really no point getting restrictors fitted. If you get pulled, and the police actually realise that you're supposed to be restricted, all they can do is ask you to prove it. AFAIK they even have to pay to put your bike on a Dyone, or use one of theirs. And even if your bike is over 33bhp, the most they can do is tell you to get it sorted, give you a producer and a form to be signed by a mechanic.
I think there are over 20 collective years of 33bhp riding on here, and none of us have been pulled.

To be honest, while I'm happily riding the NSR derestricted, I'd always had doubts about riding my next bike full power. Yes, a sports 600 at 33bhp can be a bit crappy (apparently), but going from a full power NSR to a full power Gixxer 600/CBR/R6/ZX6R would be a bit scary....
...wouldn't it?

Depends on how much of an eegit you are. If you treat the bike with respect, then they're fine. If you thrash it, you'll die.
