I'm after something fairly bright so I'm assuming LED and palm sized to fit in the jacket pocket, also reliability would be good.
Budget up to 40 small lakes.
I'm looking at this, any thoughts?

Other than the obviouse "to see in the dark", what are you intending to use it for? I prefer a head torch for hands free goodness.

It'll be used mainly for dog walks. The last dog was white so a good torch wasn't essential but the new pooch tends to blend in with the surroundings.

If you haven't tried a headtorch it's hard to understand how good they are - and even this ebay cheapie would do the job admirably.
You can still hold it in your hand like a regular torch.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AGM-CREE-USB-Head-Torch-Headlamp-18650-Battery-LED-Rechargeable-Headlight/263597810164

It's surprising how useful it is to light up little jobs round the house as well as more conventional outside walking etc.

I have one of these, it's blindingly bright, takes 3 x AAA or a dedicated rechargeable, I use AAA's.

Just checked my old Amazon orders, and I bought this one in 2014 for £2.05 delivered:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006E0QAFY/
It's actually the best and brightest torch I've ever owned; I really don't need anything better; it's almost too bright sometimes eg for anything close up you actually get dazzled by reflections from whatever it is you're trying to illuminate! Batteries last forever, and it fits in your jeans pocket too I see it's now priced at £89; which is clearly a joke/fuck-off price as they are presumably out of stock or something; there are plenty of others on Amazon for small change which look similar; however I'm deliberately posting the link to actual one I bought.

Lenser are a bit shite. Cheap enough and look the part but they fail miserably in the torchiness stakes. For a cheap stand by they are fine.

I have been using Fenix products for years.
Possibly expensive for some tastes but reliable and bright as fcku.

Seriously bright.

I use torches a lot and need them to be horribly bright (so I can see stuff high up)

This is a good review here

https://gearmoose.com/best-tactical-flashlights/

Surefire is another serious torch.

Streamlight excellent torch but more expensive again

Their websites have all the beef.

The best lights need a lot of power to drive the led so most use rechargeable 18650 batteries. Some torches only need one. They are lithium so need a bit of understanding to get the most out of them. They will fail if charged and not used for months though. Then lose some capacity. But I have not noticed any issue with the make I use (Nitecore)
(These batteries are call 18650s coz of their physical dimensions. Very Happy )

The charger costs can put people off. But I don't ever need to buy batteries and get loads of power.

Another vote for Fenix.

I use them underground. Yet to have an issue even when I am heavy handed and bash them about a bit. Not cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for.

Buy this torch. Quickly, before someone else does.

Got mine on eBay.

I have a six battery maglight that doubes up as a club or dildo, depending on how the night turns out.

Budget Light Forum or Candle Power Forums to destroy your wallet.

My go-to simple recommendation these days is the BLF A6, available from Banggood. It's superb.

Also budget for a decent 18650 and a named charger (I use a Fenix one now). Remember lithium batteries need a bit more care then Duracells.

The number of torches you need is the same as the number of bikes: n+1 Wink

A little over your budget, but I'll be asking for a Nitecore TUP for Christmas Smile

I found a LED lenser tactical torch on the floor in the high street about a year ago. It had been partially crushed
by a vehicle on its bezel so I doubt its still waterproof, but despite that it's a powerful little thing and it goes in my pocket
when I'm walking my black dog after dark. I think they retail for £40 odd quid give or take. Having owned a broken one
for a year or so, I'd happily buy another at full price.

I'm not averse to a head torch, I have this small 3 led model for household jobs but its not bright enough for walkies and the area where I go for nocturnal canine adventures is a public park and the headtorchists get on my tits.
Also I have this cheap zoomable torch but it's becoming unreliable and I'd like something a lot brighter on wide beam.

Cheers for all the suggestions. Thumbs Up

I suppose I did, but I'm not especially well educated to be honest. In any case, I got my point across.

@Recman, I had a cheapo99p chinachinachina led torch before finding the Led Lenser one and while it seemed good
value upon purchase before long it started flickering and being unreliable. It also dimmed pretty quickly. The
funny thing is, I wouldn't have coughed up £40 on a small torch before I found the one I did. Mainly because I'm a tight
old git and in my old fashioned luddite mind, no bloody torch that fits in your hand could possibly be worth £40. But
it's certainly worth that and shows up the cheap one for what it is. The flood effect is surprisingly good.

You have to factor in inflation.

A Maglite was the biz years ago but probably seemed expensive compared to the shite made by ever ready et al.

Maglite is carp now compared to the dedicated tactical stuff available today.

£40 perhaps isn't the cheapest torch but you will get something for £40 that you'll miss if you lose it,. Very Happy (and buy yourself another. Embarassed )

https://www.fenixtorch.co.uk/Shop/Fenix-Torches/E-Series/13281-Fenix-E35-UE-Ultimate-Edition-2016.html

I bought this beast to carry on the bike. I now use it at work too. Runs for hours.

I actually have an ancient maglite somewhere. I did try to revive it some years ago with new bulb and batteries but it was still poo compared to even today's cheap offerings.
I suppose a replacement LED in there might make a difference if it were available.
