My earlier milletts link has vanished. So here's an even cheaper one.

Fenix Fenix Fenix. Awesome torches for the money. Pick a battery type, then go from there - lumens / colour etc.

Not a fan of LED lenser, misleading specs, shitty current regulation and poor build quality design.

+1 on the nitecore chargers, well worth the money.

Just be careful, there's a lot of nitecore fakes on eBay.

That first torch is what we call a 'bat burner'. and will be seriously bright. They're also not waterproof. The extra gizmos such as power meter display thingy are simply more to go wrong.

For everyday walking I'd go along with a Fenix torch of some sort. The light output is pure white and they're amazing on battery life. Sure they cost more but they're very good torches.
This will give an idea as to their range and choices for batteries. As with anything shop around for deals:

I went for the fat burner, it arrived while I was at work yesterday so I didn't get to test it until I got in late last night.
Apparently it takes 6 hours to fully charge but it did have enough juice for a few minutes in the back garden.
The lowest light level option is brighter than my old torch, the middle setting is more than adequate for my requirements and the highest setting is enough to cook the dog!
I like the fact that you can just plug it in to a USB socket but there doesn't seem to be a fast charge option because it didn't respond to my Samsung charger.
No worries, it's not a deal breaker.
It's a beast of a torch and feels like it could last long enough to justify the outlay.

I readed that fast chargers/adaptive chargers just turn off a lot of background apps to allow the phone to charge faster.
They need to connected to a device that has adaptive charge capabilities too. 😉

I actually have an ancient maglite somewhere. I did try to revive it some years ago with new bulb and batteries but it was still poo compared to even today's cheap offerings.
I suppose a replacement LED in there might make a difference if it were available.

I think you can get the LED unit for the maglite (my cunt-hole fone keeps changing Maglite to Marmite. You need to love or hate that.)

I have an LED maglite. STILL SHITE. IMHO.

I saw a guy down the pub suddenly jump up and start dancing about and making a tremendous fuss like he had a wasps nest down his trousers. It was his LED torch that had switched on and was burning into his leg.

My head torch has a silicone backing to prevent it frying my brain when on full power.
