Hi All

The wheels of my current project (GT250) are rusted but relatively sound.
I don't really have the time, money or likely skill to rebuild with new rims and spokes. So has anyone ever had spoked wheels blasted and powder coated? Does it even stick properly to old chrome? Other options?

Cheers

I've seen it done. I always thought it was nasty.

I've painted rusty rims before today.

I've seen spoked wheels blasted and concluded that:
-It could be dangerous, depending on the blaster, the media and the condition of the spokes.
-It looks obvious it's been done.
If it's powder coated after, you could be looking at a blob of powder coat over the whole thing as powder coat can end up quite thick. If you ever need to adjust a spoke, you will crack the finish, if you manage to move anything. Which you'll struggle with.
I have had pretty good results with fine emery paper, sanding rust off each spoke individually then painting with chrome paint. Takes ages, is fiddly but gives you time to think up new swear words.

Can't recommend, but that's what I'd do. Again.

Then there was this guy. He just rattle-canned the whole fucking thing with no prep. And appears to have got away with it. I have no idea how intact or otherwise the chrome is under that lot. I may have a go at stripping it at some point.

I reckon it's plastikote.
